The Sk8erBoi next door is attempting to play his new drum kit. He came to see my for advice the other day, I told him that trying to play along to that 100mph Nupunk garbage was NOT a good place to start. Told him to go for something more 'sedate' ........ so, he's now got hold of Fools Gold ... and suffice to say, it aint goin well. I think he has managed to get ONE beat in the right place up to now.....and that was when he fell off the stool.

we all had to start somewhere, didn't we?

or in many cases, nowhere

that's what I meant - for me it was definetely 'nada' in the beginning - when I was seventeen I didn't even know what a chord or a bar is - I still remember my guitar-teacher saying he should actually open up a bottle of champagne as I finally grasped the concept of 1/16notes :hihi:
(that was thirteen years ago and today I still can't play properly... :help:)

Well, Hmm, I think you may have missed the point.

I don't think you can teach rhythm. You either have it or you don't. As soon as I picked upa pair of sticks I could play. Not very well, but I could play. Whereas the guy next door is just hitting things. And I believe he could hit things from now to the end of time, and he still won't have any rhythm.

So, your support for the underdog was too hasty by far. Unless of course YOU are actually the neighbour in question, in which case .. keep it up son, it's sounding great

I know a woman who constantly sings along to the music, tapping a random beat... She's had quite some practice on it though :)

Thanks, but I think you take that honour

You not spot any element of humour, or irony in my initial posting then? Idiot.

I did of course but it was on the costs of the neighbour kid! Stupid f**ker.

(your grammar leaves something to be desired b.t.w.)

Really? Where? Do tell? Educate me, please? And not in that broken English you consistently attempt, badly, but in my own language eh?

Onlookers please note. This idiot started all this ill feeling. Not me :help:

O.k. - here we go (you get this lesson for free - take it while it's hot! :hihi:):

If you ask a question in English you always either have to use a form of to do, or to be, or to have or can depending on the context (or have I forgotten any other auxiliary verb you could also use instead? :?).

So the correct question would be:

'You did not spot any element of humour...?'

For this reason you e.g. can't ask 'Must you not be at work?' but instead 'Do you not have to be at work?' ;-)

I hope this helps. :-)

I can't believe the cheek of this guy.

Go pick up that English-German dictionary/thesaurus again, and seek out the word 'pedantic'. Then look up the words 'slang' and 'parlance' ... and finally the phrases 'sense of humour bypass', 'making a mountain out of a molehill, and 'trigger happy dickhead'.

Then, absorb the obvious insinuations, take a deep breath, and pull yourself together. Man, there's a lotta pain in the world at the moment, let's all just chill. :P

Back to the original topic of this thread.

One can learn many new skills in this world (watching my grammar and sentence structure) but rhythm I believe "ain't" one of them. I've worked on mine for 20 years and have made dismal progress.
