In sx or whatever isn't there a logical editor or somesuch that can be used to perform operations of this type - changing CC numbers etc?

Logical editor, mode transform.

Add two lines to the filter target and click to change fileds to show:
Type is - equal to - controller -and
Value 1 -equal to- 105

Action target:
Value 1 - set to fixed value- 74

Select all events in the list editor, open logical editor and press do it for that logical editor config, and all CC105's will change to CC74.

BTW see the free SX2 guides for more info on setting up the logical editor and transformers.

Also if you filter the event type and value 1 in the list editor, that will show only the selected controller number.
Press control-A (select all events) and click on the value 1 field, and you can scroll or type values- and all sected controller numbers change.

You can stil use control- changing the value without the control key changes them all by the same amount. But as we already selected only the correct controller events, there was no need for the control key (which fixes all selected values to the same as the entered one).
