Hi Storlon,

I have heard about Pyramix but price wise it's in Samplitude (£650 - £750) and Protools £££+?.

As for features I think it has DX and VST support but...the cheapest version (800+Swiss francs > $690) only goes up to 48Khz which at that price will likely turn off many... :|

Pyramix native...

Includes…

Tone Control
4 Band Parametric EQ
Dynamics processor
2 Channel Record Inputs
2 Channel Playback Outputs
4 Audible Internal Editing Tracks (only 4 tracks can be heard while editing? This will be a major limitation at any price, talk less of £300+) :o

Real-time Editing
Source/Destination Editing
Track Grouping
Up to 48kHz sample rate (Many will lose interest at this point) :(
CD Import
Direct-X and VST capability (Nice but the words I was looking for were VSTi and DXi support as well, the absence of this tells me there is no MIDI functionality at all which puts even hosts like CM Muzys above this) Any CM magazine will provide a free copy of CM Muzys). 8)
Supports, PMF, WAV, BWF, AIFF, SD2, OMF and CD Image audio formats as standard.

Again by the looks of this for $600+ there is no midi functionality at all. If there is, please correct me as the audio capabilities of the more expensive versions (considerably more expensive) look promising, but are way too expensive for most people.

Unless my conversion is wrong 800+swiss francs is about $600 or £300 pounds.

Too expensive for no midi functions that I can see. Just my opnion of course

Thanks for the reply, as I see it is more of a recording type of software like Nuendo/Pro tools...

It's a well known software-hardware ala Pro Tools, it's more a competitor to PT HD than cubase and the like.

The price for a pyramix system is about 10000$
Better to say that it's not for a private use.

Mainly this software is used for broadcasting, post-production and mastering purpose.
(And it is a good one...)

Kind of studio who use pyramix:

Since you have had your question duly answered, I will now commence with the obligatory KVR quip,

"And when you sit in the middle of it, you can feel the healing energy!"
..what goes around comes around..

The kind of people who have to pay to compensate for their lack of common sense :O
Overpriced underequipped pile of rubbish it sounds like.
It looks like PTfree, but then its not free. You pay 300 quid to demo something natively?

Same as Pro Tools LE it was at the very beginning intended for some sound engineers that wanted to take job at home or during travelling...without the need to buy a second full blown big system...

PT LE allows for more tracks though, doesn't it? What can you do with 4 tracks except mastering, and mastering you don't do on the road where you have no proper monitoring if you do it professionally.

4 Audible Internal Editing Tracks (only 4 tracks can be heard while editing? This will be a major limitation at any price, talk less of £300+) Surprised
I hope you can understand what's the difference between a sequencer (most of them are toys...) and an audio workstation dedicated to brodcasting/mastering ???

Do you criticize Wavelab or Sound Forge because they can only output a stereo wave ?

I see you're coming from UK...

here's a list of their user base in UK

Abbey Road
BBC Outside Broadcast
BBC Post Production , Pebble Mill
BBC Radio
BBC TV Centre (Top of the Pops)
Craig Leon
Dean Humphreys
Delane Lea Studios
Editworks
Films at 59
Firebird Suite Ltd
Floating Earth
Movie Track
National Gallery
Nick Lowe
Pinewood & Shepperton Studios
Sanctuary Mobiles
Sony Broadcast & Professional Europe
Twickenham Film Studios
Twickenham Sound Station
Virgin Radio
Videosonics

got it?

On the road you do the semi-professional ringtone mastering. But you charge more, because airline food sucks. :)

It's got the same distinction as ProTools, of not having a KVR entry.
