Hi, newbie here.
I'm using Cubase SX 1, and try to mix demo songs for my band. I usually pan guitars to leave more space to the center of the stereo field, but how can I have the dry sound panned on one side, and only the wet sound from a reverb or delay going to the opposite side?

Post

Nobody?
Precision: my instrument tracks are mono, I hope there a way to do whatr I want in mono, I'd rather not have to convert these tracks to stereo (i.e. dual mono)

In Cubase you should be able to put the guitar signal on a aux/send bus which sends it to the reverb, so that way you can pan the dry and wet differently. Dunno the details, since I'm not very familiar with Cubase.
My MusicCalc is temporary offline.

I didnt get your question exactly... is it so that

1) you want your dry signal e.g. on the left, the reverb signal on the right, but *not* from the left,

or

2) you got your signal on the left, and the reverb comes only from the left, too, though you want it stereo, means from left *and* right?

In the first case, you should do what COOkie suggested.
In the second case (that I suppose), you should use another reverb plugin. There are quiete a lot of plugs that, when you feed them by only one channel, also output that one channel. A good reverb interprets a signal panned to the left like an actor playing on the left side of a stage - reverberating it same as in a real room picked up with two mics, where you can hear the reverb coming from all sides.

Did this answer your question? ;-)
Who is general failure? And what is he doing on my harddisc?

I think you guys are on the right track (no pun intended). What I meant is that if the guitar is say at 9 o'clock (left), I want the reverb or delay to be really light on that side, but more significant at 3 o'clock (right), to give something more spatial. It's a trick I've read, using short delay time (about 20 ms) on the opposite side. Using a reverb, I indeed hear some reverb on the opposite side when the guitar is in solo mode, but when all instruments play at the same time, that reflexion can't be heard unless I increase the "wetness", but in that case it becomes too wet on the left side.
I'll try to send the signal on a send effect, but I don't know how to use this feature yet.

That's a good trick. In Cubase SX I would do it either of two ways:

1 - clone the track, which allows you to pan the dry track where you want, and then apply 100% wet insert reverb to the cloned track and pan that where you want. Or

2 - create a Group and apply an 100% wet insert reverb to that Group. Using Send, send a signal to this Group.

Bear in mind that in Cubase, stereo effects are only mono if used on a mono track. If you have recorded mono tracks (as you do), if you want stereo reverb (as you do) you need to be using a Group anyway. Cubase SX3 has Effect Groups that I ignore, because they are cut down versions of Groups that are more limited.

Thank you guys. I think I'll try the 2nd trick proposed by greendor.

hey greendor, don't worry about other's stupid comments. Unlike them, you always try to help people instead of talk useless nonsense. I read many posts of you and I'm always impressed about your knowledge and the way you give help and make things clear to others.

I know you favour the AAR (and also other reverbs), like multree favours the 2016 and others do favour other reverbs. It doesen't matter at all and it should not be a reason to doubt your competence.

Don't give up... :)

Thanks guys, it worked when I used the effect as a send going to a group.
You guys rock!
