On the marketing thing, take a look at your local area and see if there are any college or alternative radio/TV venues that you can approach. They tend to be more open minded and artist-centric than commercial/corporate radio stations.
For example, I sent a note to the program director at WEBR in Fairfax Virginia (they're a non-profit web radio station that also broadcasts live on the community bulletin board of a cable TV service serving the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area going into about 270,000 homes). The program director just informed me they will be getting our information, along with live read copy, to their DJs to announce on their shows. They're also going to put a link on their web page to our site. Once the CD is complete, I'm sure I can get us air play and additional promo there.

Yeah, something's definitely wrong with that file. But the mix up to that point was damned good! Love how the bass/drum were finally up in the mix and the guitars tamed a bit.TotcProductions wrote:Ok, to herodotus and sascha .....what do you think of this version:

I actually like the hard left/right panning on the guitars. It sounds like you're listening to a live performance with the guitaristse on opposite sides of the stage . . . even though you wouldn't really hear them like that 'cause they'd be run through a common PA system . . .

Make sure you upload a full wav file mixdown. If possible AT ALL, don't use mp3 as your upload. Yes, the files are bigger, but that's fine. It helps with the end quality of mastering. Upload AT LEAST 44.1khz and 16 bit*******************
Contact Koolkeys or post here with any FTP questions or if this isn't a viable option for you.
** IF YOU ARE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FTP SITE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. WE MAY BE ABLE TO HOST & UPLOAD FOR YOU.
*IMPORTANT ==> CURRENT NOTICES:
Track Deadline
We are getting CLOSE to the deadline for track submissions...BUT:
...there are a few mates that have decided (early on in this project) that if the double CD went over limits, we would NOT submit our tracks. This means me as well, since it's way more important for the CD to be successfully produced than to have a xander track on it (sorry to our collab buddies if this be the case). This is the best way to ensure we have enough quality tracks and fewer hassels/worries. If those tracks voluntarily removed aren't enough, we'll ask for more volunteers, and I am sure everyone is cool enough about it to volunteer, so we should NOT be worried about the CD length/too many tracks, etc..
We're going to feel much better knowing that the money is going from a CD we produced to help people in desperate need -- a way better feeling than poncing about with a CD going: "I'm somebody! I'm somebody!!"
Bios
We should have posted some guidelines on this, but basically it's a free-form thing and should only be about three lines. The bios are needed in projects like this to lend more depth to the track than just it's music, and when the listener see such, they get a more personal feeling about the music. Your name ought to be your chosen professional name. HOWEVER, I have known famous artists to collab on projects like this using fake names so they wouldn't violate their Label contracts.
Up to you!
