I DOUBLE DARE ANYONE TO IDENTIFY WHICH IS WHICH.
FL Studio makes synthetic music?

Simple test. Use the same VSTs and MIDI data to produce a mixdown from FL and SX; then A/B compare them.

Analogue or digital – which is better? There's only one way to find out... FI-I-IGHT!!!

oh christ. bunch of fanboys banging their heads together.
First of all, what's wrong with synthetic music?
This is my favourite,
FL studio, the best thing since sliced bread for flexible busses and auxillary routings. Also best known for its extensive PDC capabilities.
Oh wait, it's also perfect for sidechaining.
Throw it about 8 audio tracks and watch your computer tumble and fall. How's that for mixing capabilities?

there is nothing in Cubase that you can't do in FL on the mastering/mixing side. It's just VST's, 1's and 0's

So a Cubase fanboy stepps in to set FL Fanboys straight...never seen that happen at KVR before.Kingston wrote:FL studio, the best thing since sliced bread for flexible busses and auxillary routings. Also best known for its extensive PDC capabilities.

None of the features you mention are required to make a mix that is commercial quality, which was the gist of the original argument and to which I was responding.
FL5 can side-chain right now. I have no idea why you think the FL mixer isn't flexible.
According to loop-talk discussions with gol, FL6 will have PDC.
I just ran 16 tracks...1% CPU, you obviously have no idea how to set up FL, your own PC or indeed what you are talking about.Kingston wrote: Throw it about 8 audio tracks and watch your computer tumble and fall. How's that for mixing capabilities?
Carb.

Well, like it or not, the layout and featureset of a host app will shape your workflow. You can put a conceous effort to work in any desired way but certain techniques will feel more comfortable etc.
Therefore I'd also say (to, say, a new person wanting to dip in the world of computer music) that FL is much more suitable fo dance/electronic composition, whereas Tracktion is a better solution for a live-playing and recording artist.
As for people claiming that different daws have inherently different sound qualities, well, if John Vestman says it, it must be true

FL can do sidechaining for a long time now.
otherwise, this conversation is annoing.

If it were just VSTi, you'd be right. However, it's not. The signal/mixing path is FL Studio or Cubase or whatever. If you take six VSTi and simply add up the output you'll get clipping. If you simply divide by six, you'll get a quiet signal. So, there's some kind of processing involved. It's the quality of that processing that comes into play.Carbonboy wrote:In the case above it's complete crock...there is nothing in Cubase that you can't do in FL on the mastering/mixing side. Quite which one has the best processing I've no idea. I've got both Live 5 and FL Studio. Both work for me - although I get on better with FL Studio as I work mostly with MIDI editing.

Must be some serious processing going on for that to happen. I had no idea that adding up, diving by 8 and doing some post processing would consume that much CPU!Kingston wrote:Throw it about 8 audio tracks and watch your computer tumble and fall. How's that for mixing capabilities?

I agree, I was just illustrating that there seems to be some myth/consensus about the sound quality of FLStudio amongst some people. Several people criticised the first poster for speaking rubbish when he was just pointing out what some other people say...Carbonboy wrote:Examples don't make things true, with thousands of people downloading the demo and trying it out every week (tens of thousands JMC?) you are going to get people saying everything from FL Studio is perfect to FL Studio sucks...so whatJbravo wrote:well here's just one example:Carbonboy wrote: This is an insane topic...
"when i listen music made in Fruity loops, i don't know why (i don't use FL), it sounds very tiny and digitally. What about extract all separate tracks from FL and mix and master it for example in Cubase SX ? I think it will sound much bigger and more natural than mixdown from FL ...."

In my dealings with it, I find it is really all about the VSTis you use. Yes, some of the included samples are horrific. And none of the synths, except Sytrus, appealed to me at all. But if you get some great VSTis, say WusikStation or its variants, for example, you can produce some great stuff. I wouldn't see why you couldn't create a completely acoustic sound with the appropriate VSTis if you wanted to in FL Studio.

Why is FL the most "controversial" audio software? Am I missing the debates on the others or are they on different forums?

Could the complaint just be about the fruity reverb and maybe panning realism? If the critics could be more specific, they might be able to identify valid areas where improvement is possible.
