My friend just emailed me and said he saw a "Sidekick" cellphone (Nokia i believe) with a built in Drum Sampler software. Apparently it is a special version that has an MPC software built in. Has anyone seen this? I google searched and could not find anything. thanks

If it's a Sidekick (also known as a hiptop), that's sold by T-Mobile.

I'll have to check to see if we have.. erm if THEY have that kind of software

. Nokia devices I know nothing about...

My friend just told me that he had seen this model (with the MPC) while he was on a recent tour of the USA (my friend is a relatively famous Reggaeton artist). I wonder if it is limited edition or something of that nature?

The Sidekick is developed by Danger. It is basically a device that can run applications that are developed for it. The guys at Danger are pretty cool and I wouldn't be surprised if thay had developed some sort of drum machine application. Whether it's just a demo or a future update to the device remains to be seen.

i emailed my friend, so that he could provide me with more info. I want to find out if this Sidekick (with the MPC) has a distinct look (special edition,etc).... or if it is just some software application loaded onto the Sidekick. I assume it is the latter. thanks

I just read some specs on the current Sidekick phones.
They use a platform for games and other apps called J2ME, which is a version of Java, made by Sun Microsystems.
Chances are that drum sampler program (whether MPC or not) will be (J2ME) Java based.

I already know that a few sites offer Java based guitar tuners and the like...
