Another oversampling test, this time OtiumFX Compadre, which also, like the sonalksis compressor, benefits a lot (edit: IMHO!) from oversampling x4. Guess which is the oversampled one?

Compadre A (2mb .wav)

Compadre B (2mb .wav)

And thanks rune for the heavy squash preset! :)

Cheers!

This time, better definition on kick drum on sample B and less annoying pumping on cymbals on sample A.
A tough one! Could it be oversampling on sample A?

Post

Its B...

Here are the Sonalksis ones again. Just to keep both posts on the same page.

Sonalksis A (2mb .wav file)

Sonalksis B (2mb .wav file)

Cheers!

Logically, as both -B- are brighter (distortion?) they should be the oversampled ones.

It is subtle but I wasn't surprised. You just posted the second set and I had to edit my post which got after yours.

egbert thanks for the suggestion of TLs Audio Limiter, I love that plugin !

pakana I have done some examining on Sonalksis and there is indeed a lot of stuff going on right there. It definitely affects the frequency response. Try creating a sine wave sweep from 20 hz -> 20 khz and run the compressor on it (even lightly), you'll definitely see a change there :D

bmanic & jens: thanks a lot for the advise. I really have a soft spot for how Sonalksis sounds ... damn the UAD-1 looks soooooooooo tempting

thanks for posting clips u guys, can't wait to listen to em when I get home :D

How should I interpret your post? Do you find it to be so badly sounding?

Post

Nope.. makes me want to buy whatever you used to get that result!

EDIT: btw. I'm kind of diggin ALL the examples I've heard from you guys. Maybe it's the psychological factor of not tweaking stuff one self.

listening to the UAD-1 stuff now ... couldn't wait :D screw work :D

LA-2A sounds really similar to the Sonalksis compressor to my ears.

1176 sounds AMAZING !! I wonder if I could get a sound like that out of any native compressors ... :?:

its only 9:47 am ... HURRY UP TIME !!! I need to get home :D:D:D

Cheers
