but that's a pretty ugly solution - unless of course you have such a complex scenario in the main window that's it's pretty much unavoidable.
still, you can get as complex as you want in the seq by group tracks (that's why traditional sequencers have them, for this obvious reason).
horses for courses though - the one starts in the main window the other in the seq, nothing to argue about.

yup - and for that reason it might be useful in some sitations...atomota wrote:Sorry, I lose. The eXT gain is post-insert chain, a gain on the "group insert" would be pre-insert chain. The former is probably "more proper", and the latter type of effect already exists (may not be easy to find though) since it's useful for trimming.atomota wrote:eXT already provides a gain control in the mixer. If you are happy with eXT's linear gain controls, that should be all you need.duncanparsons wrote:would a gain control be helpful? then you could use it like a proper group!
(and a Betabugs gui would be lovely as well...

+6db please!duncanparsons wrote:I'll do asap then, if not for tomorrow, then for early next week...
Do you want +3dB, or +6dB top?

..actually, if you use moneo you get gain upto +6dB, panning and basic filtering for gentle EQ..

yes, but that's imho already too much for this purpose...

Try it out..
I'll get a better background sorted.
Slider at halfmast=0dB, full=+6dB
there is no clipping, etc, just Gain.
If that's too much, I'll put it to +3dB - you tell me.
Input and Output vus have the same range as the slider, halfway is 0dB

Great!!!
- I just love the betabugs-names b.t.w. - descriptive & funny!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hmmm - I didn't realise the gain was only post-insert in the mixer. It would be nice to be able to switch.
You know, if you really want to be totally whacky, you can insert two "Group Channels" and have the first one just for gain control and panning and then output one "Group Channel" into the other one for insert and send effects.
God - you really can get quite complicated in the sequencer if you want to.

If there are any good ideas as to what would make this better, see here. Pre/Post is something that would have to be routed manually or sorted by Jorgen. I'm not looking to do a channel strip, just a small utility that could help.

This is a great tip! This gives me a large part of what I wanted in eXT.jens wrote: it's really that simple and it works and all group-inserts are automatable... - I guess this functionality was always there - we just didn't realize it...![]()

b.t.w.: with that technique you can even group group-tracks...![]()

I don't know if I am doing something wrong here but when I freeze a track for which the synth outputs to a group track (using the Passthru plugin), it doesn't produce any sound. When I switch the output of the synth on the frozen track to master out it starts producing sound again.
When I render the project, the frozen tracks do produce sound. Does this mean that EXT doesn't use the frozen tracks during rendering (like a temporary 'unfreeze all' before rendering)?
One other (off topic) question: is the main volume slider of the sequencer post-insert effects? Does this mean I have to insert Voxengo SPAN (for instance) in the main window to be able to see the levels and EQ curve of the rendered file?
