I'm pretty sure someone said CDBaby already confirmed their shipping was the same for a double CD. But I could be wrong.

Yeah, I hate those old-style big-ass CD cases. I went through my collection and changed them all over to smaller ones.

Cool. You actually playing that horn? I have an old trumpet around somewhere. I get it out every now and then and wonder how it's supposed to be played :hihi:

I think you have to blow through and when sounding like a cow, you're the right way...

At last I´ve got things together and loaded up a song for the Relief project. If I didn´t "crash" ...xander´s site (it´s the first time I loaded something up this way), then there will be my song (16 bits, no dithering). Let me know if it didn´t arrive or if it´s not ok like that.

You can take a listen at it on The Auditorium (a little publicity for Peter :hihi: ), right here : http://www.audioshots.com/auditorium/vi ... 9423#19423

For example, I sent a note to the program director at WEBR in Fairfax Virginia (they're a non-profit web radio station that also broadcasts live on the community bulletin board of a cable TV service serving the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area going into about 270,000 homes). The program director just informed me they will be getting our information, along with live read copy, to their DJs to announce on their shows. They're also going to put a link on their web page to our site. Once the CD is complete, I'm sure I can get us air play and additional promo there.
Thats awesome emdot!!

AllenPOPO wrote:just some quick questions...how many preorders do we need to be truly successful? me and my girl are going to order one a piece, plus ive been getting the word around here in the metro ATL area..hopefully that will generate some sales. I might even get a chance to play my track on the radio, with relevant website info to plug! :-o

...if that works, may be a good boost...ill keep you guys posted.

Allen
ps i cant wait to hear the song mastered, too :)
Hey Allen, I'm still negotiating prices, so I don't know exactly how many preorders we need. Somewhere around 20 more.

You're in Atlanta, I live in Smyrna. Maybe we could coordinate an Atlanta Marketing Project. PM me if you are interested.

emdot_ambient wrote:Speaking of that . . . has anyone actually decided on a place to do the CDs? I haven't seen anything on that front posted here for quite a while . . . like what the cost will be, whether it's going to be a nice thin fold-out double CD jewel case or one of the old big bulky ones.

:?:
It will be a single jewel case with one of those flippable plastic trays in th middle.
The price is being negotiated. I should know the price and manufacturer tomorrow. :)

Also, please fill in the Tag info for your song before you upload it to the FTP site, using THIS file naming format: (title/artist - or - artist/title)

i.e. GoldenThroat&Handsome_Xander.wav.

*If your song is in the complete list, but the link is not active or correct, please PM xander.

*Final track numbers will depend on song lengths.

************NOTE:*************
Make sure you upload a full wav file mixdown. If possible AT ALL, don't use mp3 as your upload. Yes, the files are bigger, but that's fine. It helps with the end quality of mastering. Upload AT LEAST 44.1khz and 16 bit*******************

Contact Koolkeys or post here with any FTP questions or if this isn't a viable option for you.

** IF YOU ARE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FTP SITE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. WE MAY BE ABLE TO HOST & UPLOAD FOR YOU.

*IMPORTANT ==> CURRENT NOTICES:

Track Deadline

We are getting CLOSE to the deadline for track submissions...BUT:

...there are a few mates that have decided (early on in this project) that if the double CD went over limits, we would NOT submit our tracks. This means me as well, since it's way more important for the CD to be successfully produced than to have a xander track on it (sorry to our collab buddies if this be the case). This is the best way to ensure we have enough quality tracks and fewer hassels/worries. If those tracks voluntarily removed aren't enough, we'll ask for more volunteers, and I am sure everyone is cool enough about it to volunteer, so we should NOT be worried about the CD length/too many tracks, etc..

We're going to feel much better knowing that the money is going from a CD we produced to help people in desperate need -- a way better feeling than poncing about with a CD going: "I'm somebody! I'm somebody!!"
:hihi:

Bios

We should have posted some guidelines on this, but basically it's a free-form thing and should only be about three lines. The bios are needed in projects like this to lend more depth to the track than just it's music, and when the listener see such, they get a more personal feeling about the music. Your name ought to be your chosen professional name. HOWEVER, I have known famous artists to collab on projects like this using fake names so they wouldn't violate their Label contracts. Up to you! :)

xRAVENx wrote:I'd recommend something lighter and less bulky than the old double jewel cases, wouldn't want to run into trouble with shipping costs with cdbaby. And do they know this is gonna be a double-CD?
Cdbaby agreed to keep the fees the same for a double cd, given the project's aim. :)
It's not one of those double stacked cases anyways, just a single, standard size jewel case.

OK, that should answer all the questions. Sorry I haven't been around as much, my home internet is non-existent right now. That should be fixed soon and I will be back in full swing. Nonetheless, I've been working in the background, talking to various folks. Tomorrow should reveal a lot more details. :)
