I see, I've never heard an Alan Smart compressor. I do have a 'sample' of it in the sintefex but like always, the compression itself in the sintefex is not even close to the real thing.

I've yet to hear anything else that sounds like the sonalksis compressor (hardware or software) which is good, imho. It's a tool like anything else but has it's own character for sure.

Even though the Sonalksis falls flat from the original in this regard, it still has it more than most native plug-ins. The other good one is Voxengo's TapeBus in the Analogflux Suite. Vari-MU = UAD-1 Fairchild.
One thing I do not understand. Why do you think the Sonalksis tries to model SSL compression? IMHO it doesn't sound anything like the SSL 4000 (E) series master bus compressor that I've fooled around with. And AFAIK sonalksis just made their own compressor, inspired by the sound of good compression. They didn't really model it on anything.

EDIT: and speaking of that "warmth and stickiness..", here are some examples of the Sonalksis Compressor, one is x4 oversampled, just to show what it does to native compressors.

Softcore because it is made only with software, from the shredding 303 style rez, to the la2a inspired limiter. All algorithms, and done by myself.

I don't know what you did to completely destroy the loop but maybe it's the rather harsh added EQ?

you seem to like that kinda pumping. Me not.
Again, I would like to hear some more moderate settings. Big compression without squeezing every ounce of life outa everything. Basically the sound of your compressor thingy -seems- to be OK but this is really hard to tell with such settings.

Come on, guy, don't take it too serious! It's just a bit too obvious that whereever you chime in whichever thread, you post links to such over-compressed tracks and to your ishan-dsp website... this is funny for some time but then it's getting annoying - it leads to the impression you just want some marketing for your plugs. I really suggest you to open a sperate thread for your limiter where you can discuss it from scratch.

I actually liked his limiter (not talking price here) but man is this guy trying to destroy the plug and his own future as vst effects developer. Hm.. I think he already did, anyway.

He's already stated that his limiter is only for professionals! Besides that I'm getting a visual about support issues...imagine what goes thru his mind, something like "Oh Gawd, it works fine on my machine - more complaining KVR bitches!".

I got the Sonalksis Compressor and it's my allday every use and happy-maker compressor...

Really, I like the way it does apply well defined, charming, subtle but quiet effective and - if you want - also stronger characterful compression.

For the compression-for-sound purposes, I use the PSP MixCompressor (not the new MasterComp), which sounds very different, very strong and colorful to me, but also very nice.

Does anybody know how these compete to the UAD ones, if ever comparable? Is it worthwhile, to switch to UAD anyway?
