Hey guys,
I want to be able to apply effects live to the sound inputs of my soundcard. ie. if I hook up my turntable with my PC I want to be able to abuse sound by applying all sorts of effects. I know I can use sequencers like ableton live, but there's an overhead with sequencers which creates a delay...
I want a simple software like VSTHost to do that. Is there a such software? or even VSTHost could be good, but I couldn't make it work...
any help is appreciated... Cheers
Applying effects live

Typically the "delay" that you hear is due to latency rather than the "host overhead" that you speak of. Ableton Live will fit the bill for you, just make sure you're running an ASIO driver and keep the latency low.
Personally I use either FLStudio or Project 5 version 2 to apply live effects depending on my mood. Both work well with incoming audio and live effects processing.
Futher tips:
Have a good MIDI controller that has assignable buttons along with faders and pots. That way you can assign an effect bypass to a button so that you can drop the effect in and out of the mix.
It's also fun to have a MIDI joystick for multi-directional effects like buffer override or a phaser-type plug-in.
Finally, before using any configuration live, test all plug-ins for compatibility and CPU consumption. There is nothing worse than an off-beat glitch or crash when playing live.

Hey ATA,
Thanks for your response. I don't know if it's my soundcard (Creative Audigy 2 platinum eX) or ableton live overhead, but when I decrease latency to 2ms, I hear crack sounds, and as I keep increasing they slowly disapear. I need 50ms settings to hear the smooth sound, but that's too much when I'm DJing, as output is way off and beat matching becomes a problem. Any ideas?
As for your tips, that really what I want to do, I got my Edirol PCR-30 MIDI controller hooked up and I'm just having a blast with the sound abuse... Only problem is the latency crap...

it's definitely your soundcard. try the asio4all driver (www.asio4all.com) and you might get better latency. you pretty much need to get it below 10 ms from input to output or you'll notice it on realtime stuff. otherwise look like you'll need summink better than the creative.
