There's a pretty old cosby show theme tune, with some vocals by bill cosby, was done by Quincy Jones.
I remember it cos' my dad had an old LP with loads of movie & TV theme shows Quincy had done, loved that one... real early 70's funky.

The Monkees' songwriters included Carole King ("Pleasant Valley Sunday"), and Neil Diamond ("I'm a Believer").

They were actually a good gig for a songwriter, in their day. Remember, Jimi Hendrix was their opening act in '67.

I think the Monkees were the first to use a Moog synth on an album -- "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.", 1967
