Hi,
this is our new VSTi, "Traks":

Image

It is a very simple tool.

- Load single tracks from a multitrack performance.
- Set details (original tempo, phases, etc.)
- Define slices for loops or samples
- Play at any tempo by midi notes. It stretches time and shifts pitch, in realtime...

BE CAREFUL: this version only loads mono wav files, 44.1 KHz, 16 bit !!!

Download it from www.sknote.it ("download" page)

If you don't have a multitrack recording, you can simply test it with a single wav file (use only one track)

Tested in Cubase, EnergyXT, FLS, Tracktion
Pdf manual to be uploaded in a few days.

Comments are very welcome :)

Wow thanks! and free, I'm going to test it with some Drumdrops multitrack recordings I've got from a MusicTech magazine cover cd!

Cheers!

I still have to upload the manual, so here are some tips for testing:

The concept is: you have a whole multitrack performance. Don't cut files! Load the whole tracks and assign slices, but don't mess with files.

Put the files for single tracks in a directory. Drop a single file in "directory" field (upper left). It strips directory.
Drop files in tracks, it strips filenames.

IMPORTANT: put the most "neutral" track in track 1!!! Example: room, or mix. This is because the first track rules for analisys and stretching.

Press "reload" (center-right). Wait a while, it loads files and computes graphics and beats.

In each moment, you edit a single note. Select by clicking on keyboard. Feedback on center small display.

Scroll wave, click on desired end position and push "get loop end"
click on desired start position and push "get loop end"

There are two kinds of slices:
- Loop. It plays direct from disk, as long as you want (10 megs?)
- Sample. It loads in ram. Plays together with loop. To add shots to modify loops.

Write midi notes at about each 16 beats, not too long, to get in synch...

The controls under each filename are: invert phase 180° and delay track in samples. Delay is set only after reload! This is to adjust small phase errors among tracks...

Please remember to check the "sound" parameter for the best sound quality when time-stretching.
It should be very different when using drums and when using percussions with long "tuned" sounds, like tabla

So this isn't a multitrack drum quantizer? I got really excited for a minute there...

Yes, it is going to came up. We have to test 24 bit realtime behaviour

forgive me, just trying to get my head around this, when you say load the whole multitrack up do you mean load all of the tracks of an 8track song at one time?, you do mean the separate audiotrack files right, not just a two track master, sorry today is my dumbday of the week.

Load up to 10 tracks from the same recording.
Example: from a drummer performance:
- overhead left
- overhead right
- kick
- snare
- hi-hat
- toms left
- toms right
- room
- snare reverb 100%wet
- effected room

The WHOLE tracks, from a single instrument (drums or percussive set)

Not tested with non-percussive instruments...

Hi quinto, it's nice to see this thing evolving

Hi Quinto,

So you can take a whole performance of ANY length (ie 4 minutes) and quantize multitracked drums? Similar to Beat Detective/Beat Quantizer? If so, YAY!

b.

P.S. The fact that it's a VST, so it'd be inside the hose you're working in (ala Beat Detective/Pro Tools) would be AWESOME!
