I am doing some lo-budget animation and I am trying to find a good voice changer program. Or else hire Mel Blanc, but he is dead.
This will enable me to create the characters voices on demand, instead of trying to get my friends and family to read scripts into a microphone.
Audacity, by SoundForge, is free. I am currently testing this product. I do need to know which VST plugins are good for character voices.
Now, my tests so far have resulted in pitch shifting my voice from normal to munchkinland. So I recall that their are significant differences between male and female voices.
Different voices have different characteristics. The first is the principal tone, and then additional overtones. The combination of these is referred to as timbre (tamber).
So now I am looking for two more things, first, additional VST plugins to add harmonics to the voice, and second, a technical document that describes the differences between human voices.
So that is where I am at now. Are their any music theorists in the house who can "pitch" in? :)

I can't help much, but what you'll want is something that can change the "formants" without necessarily screwing with pitch. Ideally, you'd do both to certain degrees... change pitch a BIT, but also change "formants".
I'm quite sure there are plug-ins or programs that can do both, but I don't have a list off the top of my head unfortunately. Hopefully that word "formant" will help you find what you need, though!

For low cost formant changes, checkout: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=89602
Or if you have a hardware budget, consider the TC-Helicon VoiceOne or VoiceLive.

I WOULD like to suggest some of the ELEVAYTA stuff. I'm not a developer and I don't care. I just heard a sample of Clone Boy and was really friggin' impressed. Protocol be dammed.

Post here and ask for voice actors:
http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/
There are TONS of wannabe voice actors on newgrounds, and most times even a bad one will sound better than trying to use a voice changer on your own voice (mostly because character of voice comes from more than voice pitch).
Of course you could always go the "Clock Crew" method and use bad voice synthesis for every character. It's funny at the very least.

YES!!!Space Boy wrote:I would like to suggest a few to try but...
ChorBoy can do that!!!!
@Boy: There is also the possibility to post PM, if you feel the abandon to always post your SPAM.
You suggest your plugs actually to EVERYTHING, which has the keywords "voice" or "harmonizer" or "choir" or similar inside. But probably also totally unrelated in most cases ...
And by the way, there is SpaceBoy and ConvoBoy and all the Boys of the world too!

What's up your ass, Mr. Winky? He's a vendor with a product; this thread was about a potential consumer who needs a product. There may be other people out there who are in a similar situation as the original poster and curious about similar things, so why NOT answer in public?
Perfectly acceptable and not spam.
I'd do the same thing. What if BBA had a product that could do pitch and formant shifting, but was freeware? Would we have more 'justification' giving the heads-up just because it's free? I don't think so. I think it's all the same kettle of fish.

Sorry. But I see that crap actually happen in 80 percent of the posts I look at. Boy Boy Boy...
Without any end in sight...
There is the possibility to purchase Advertizing here on KVR, by the way. Then he can put 100 banners if he want.
Also he has its private "banner" in his signature. Isn't that enuff anywhen ???
He could at least say something to the topics. BUT he merely skipps in and does penetrant advertizing. Only. Nothing more. Nothing less.
That is a kind of forum mis-usage too, right?
