I am absolutely astounded at the response this is getting. We've already made a bunch of profit, the developers have gotten involved, things are just FLYING along!
I want to give a HUGE thank you to all who are contributing. The list is too long. But if you've given time, talent, software, energy, prayer, etc. I'm talking to you. Thank you SOOOOOOO much!

I have contacted a couple of labels. IF we get a label sponsorship, we will be able to get royalties from airplay, and these can go straight into the charities.
As it stands, it looks like we are going to get airplay, and it appears at this point that the 'San Jose Mercury News' (Silicon Valley, California, USA) is going to do up a little story on us.
Amazing mates -- This project has gone atomic.

Yes, royalties should also go to charity. Is there a way to set that up? I'm not sure. I'm currently with ASCAP and so they would handle it all, but I'm of the thinking that each person may have to just be honest and send the money to charity.
Saying that, it will be a VERY minor amount of royalties, and not everybody will get their songs played. Maybe something can be worked out, who knows. But since all the profits MUST go to charity, we have to have an agreement on what happens if for some reason there are royalties. But again, they will be small, and hard to trace from one or two stations.

Well, I'm not a member of ASCAP yet, though I want to be . . . would this CD release make me eligible? I know they require you to be published (or soon to be published). If this realease is enough then we could encourage everyone to sign up who isn't.
But WOOOOOOOOOW! So many good things going on!
Many, many thanks to the developers!
Orders, please!

BMI here, but, before we get carried away, the royalties per artist we might see for airplay would be so insignificant that it wouldn't be worth the postage to worry about -- unless the CD started to get MAJOR attention, like if it was on it's way to gold status, etc.
Then, who knows?

How do I know if I need BMI?
You need BMI if you have written or published songs that have the potential to be used by the kind of businesses we mentioned above. In the age of the Internet, for example, anyone who has written a song posted on a website would qualify to join BMI. If you do not have completed songs or recorded demos, you probably do not need BMI yet.
Filled out your application yet? Hmmm?
Cheers,
Alex 'The Eternal Optimist' James

Ok, just finished catching up on the pages that have gone by since I last logged on.
I can't believe the quantity and quality of the prizes being offered!!
The news just gets better and better!!
To answer some questions...The $25 cd sales will generate an average of $18 of charity money, based on using cdbaby. Cdbaby is not set in stone, but it's the most reasonable option I could find. If someone has a better suggestion, or feels like mailing hundreds of cds all over the world, then let me know. Also, shipping costs with cdbaby are fairly reasonable, especially if people overseas opt to have the cds shipped without the case (perhaps it should be mandatory).
Unfortunately, we must use a lot of the preorder money to make the cds. But the way I see it is that most of the preorders (surely at least the amount needed for manufacturing) are from kvr members. So I see it as a way this community can come together and offer an incentive for people outside of this community to donate some money to help Katrina victims.
The way things are going, this project is already a success in my mind.

Yes, this CD qualifies you to join ASCAP. But check around. I personally like ASCAP, but some people prefer BMI, and if they can get in, SESAC. It's all about your preference. I'm by all of them each day and made my decision based on what I read on their respective websites.
But as I said before, the royalties made here would not be enough for anything really.
