VST MP3 Recorder

Is there a VST Audio Recorder that can record straight to MP3?
I saw that there is a bunch of VST wave recorders. There's also some programs that can record straight to mp3 from the line in. But I haven't found a VST plug that can record straight to MP3. I guess it should be possible, though.
It may seem like a strange question so I should explain...
I made this simple setup in VST Host (delay+reverb) to record the occasional music inspiration that comes when I'm working on other things. I find it very convenient. It's just one click away and ready to go using VST Host's built-in recorder. It uses my notebook's internal soundcard so it's useable at any moment with my multimedia headset. No need to switch to anything high-end. I usually have one of my flutes hanging around or I can just hum the tune. Then I can just as easily go back to whatever I was doing.
There's obviously no need for high quality recording here, so I convert the resulting wave files to MP3 to save space.
I want to avoid that step if possible. I have a couple of programs that can record straight to MP3 but they can't use fx. I like to have the fx, especially with the flute as it influences my playing.
If that's not possible, does anyone know another quick and simple way to do the same? Or I'll just keep doing the conversion by hand... Thanks.

nope, there's no vst mp3 recorder,i'm afraid.there's not much in the way of mp3 vsti,a couple of players,x-tal and mp3play,but no recorders, could you record at 8bit?does tobybear or voxengo recorders do low bit rates?do you need a vst host just to apply delay, reverb?maybe,

would do the job, then record it with your mp3 recorder?i'm sure there's a few ways to add reverb to a mic-in,anyone?
anyway,are we related?

Thanks for the tip. I think my current system is simpler, though. I guess I'll have to chose between having fx and compressing the wave files after or having straight mp3s but no fx.
It's not a big deal. I was just curious to see if I could really have it all in one.
BTW, I never record at 8-bit. I go down to 22 kHz mono to save space but I use 16-bit depth. I really don't like that 8-bit sound.

can't you use your mp3 recorder to catch what's coming out of vsthost?

No. I tried but it doesn't work. To do that I have to select the "stereo mix" as recording source and this creates a feedback loop as this also becomes the input source for VST Host.spacedad wrote:can't you use your mp3 recorder to catch what's coming out of vsthost?
