Er, might be wrong but I think Creative's Vienna lets you "see" the wavs from which a soundfont is constructed and from there you can copy/paste to another directory. In terms of best free SF player, I think the shortcircuit demo will give you the features you are looking for, I know its not strictly freeware but it is fully working with the restriction of 2 note polyphony (it's also a very cool sampler, the demo just might tempt you to buy). Sorry I ain't got links but shortcirciut you can find at vemberaudio and doin a google for creative vienna should get ya there pretty quick. Hope this helps :shrug:
Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

Try the Kxsf2-ST;

I haven't used it enough to know if it is good through a broad range of soundfonts ( sfz is best for that), but so far it is good. It also has a mono mode for legato playing.

Xtrakk is what I use to extract the WAV files from soundfonts.

SFZ works best for me as a soundfont player, too. It's the best soundfont player you'll get for free. It has filters and envelopes, but you need to control them from an external MIDI controller.

Awave. Not free but the new version supportS SFZ 24 bit files. Now sf2 does not support 24 bit files but a new sf spec will. Now you can build SF2's with Awave. I can't think of too many thing's it can't do. But it's not free.
Pentagon,z3ta+,Tassman,Vsampler 3,FM7,Vocator,Sonar 3 Producer,SoundForge,Awave,Vegas 5
SFZ+,P5. And two kick ass DawBox machines!
