What VERSION of SX3 are you using? (There's a reason for this question)

ok, here's whats happening.
I hit record and started playing a drum thing exactly in time with your 2 test crashes. Even though nothing was showing on the screen (the little midi marks to show ot's recording), I kept playing. Finally the recording kicked in at 15 where your cymbals started at 3 and 5 on the ruler. Yours is fine but I'm baffled.

Aha! BFD !
I don`t have BFD...but I believe whats happening is that the drum kit you have chosen is not "GM".(there maybe kits in the kit list that say "GM"...and the General Midi lits will put each drum on other keys that are in line with each other.
Other kit drums will be on other keys,(midi notes)...and it maybe that you haven`t hit those keys on your keyboard as yet.
There is a way to re-map the midi notes that are defaultly assigned to each drum in a kit...but that`s another story. hehe
Let me know if thats what is happening.

nothing was showing on the screen?
You mean the project?
I have a double monitor config here..but I believe I set that project to show on a single screen...maybe if you say..open the midi editor...it maybe off screen...scroll the bar on the right to see it and drag it in the main view.

I dont think thats it because it does start recording all the correct sounds only it starts 10 bars or so after it should have.I have support on the phone. He just put me on hold to figure out my options after having me do this and that. I'll let you know what he says. This is version 3.0.2

Ok..I finally know what your saying above.
The metronome counts the intro off...then after that,it sets in the record function.
Are you now saying you want to hear the metronome ,but be able to record from the start of the ruler?

In the "test" project I sent you...I tried to record immediately after starting the record.
It did record and show the midi as I was playing.
It also played it back the same.
I`m using sx3 v 3.0.2 build 623.
I know it should count before the cursor begins to move ahead...My nuendo does that...not sure why sx3 is set not to do that.
Now I REALLY want to know what to set to get it to do this.
Is this a "pre-count" bug?
Awaiting what steinberg tells you.

ok...I have it!
In the metronome settings...you see the pre-count is set to 2 bars by default.
Also in the "trasport" dropdown menu, you see"pre-count on"...set that to "on".
Now when you record...it will count 8 beats before the curser begins to move forward and begin to record.

Annode, I talked with support and as most tech supports do when they can't figure it out (he tried though),told me it may be a hardware problem after telling them what kind of workstation I have (openlabs neko 64 which I'm also using to be on the web while doingg cubase)and that I should call them since this thing is a bit unique.
I was about to call when I noticed a window didn't close right on my computer so I rebooted and what do you know I opened up the project again and I was able to record a midi track at the beginning. The timing is a little off maybe needs to be quantized or something but it's starting about the same time now as your test.
You are a great help and I sure appreciate it. This things been driving me nuts only to find out I needed to reboot.

Ok Mr ignorant. I'll guess that you are using the H20 version. The timing issue you describe is a rock solid giveaway. Tell you what ... nip over to the Steinberg support forum. Sure they will sort you out

I`d start a whole new test project after now you seem to have it all sorted.Do`nt stay in the same project that had probs before.
And as for Manc Chris(wise ass)..if he was using a crack...steinberg would have nothing to do with him.
