Well, I am new to this whole sound on your PC and VsT business. I never thougt of using my guitar as input for my guitar and I didn't even know there was something like Amplitube that can act as a "virtual" amplifier!

My sound card is an Audigy 2 Platinum Ex with the breakout box. I know now that it is not what many of you consider to be a "professional" sound card. Until recently I thought that creative labs was the only choice for a sound card on the PC. For the drivers I am using the alternative Kx drivers instead of the default ones from creative labs.

I connect my guitar to the "Line In 1/Mic" input on my breakout box. I set the input volume knob to almost the maximum ( at maximum levels I get heavy clipping ). The sound is pretty bad though. Like I said before, It sounds lifeless and thin :(

So then I decided to plug my guitar into a mono insert ( it sais in the manual I can plug in a guitar ) Yamaha table mixer instead and use the setero output from the mixer as stereo Line 3 input ( RCA ) on the breakout box. Still the same sound, maybe a bit better, but not by much. FAR AWAY from Sacha's sound.

OK, this is really going off topic, but anyways, as we're allready at it:
If you want a good guitar sound from amp VSTs, you WILL need a suitable input for high impedance signals. You will also need proper converters. And you need a rather clean signal path as everything seems to be WAY more sensible when it comes to noise, caught up by whatever stuff (power cables, monitors, adapters, PCs, etc etc). At least that's my personal experience.

To make a long story short: If you want quick and easy results without spending too much money (and nerves), I can only recommend getting one of the "I do it all" boxes, such as a VAmp (which is what I'm using in case I can't record a real amp), a POD, a Johnson J-Station, etc etc... fwiw, the latest Line 6 thingies (the "TonePort" series) are looking rather good and they've got most of the amp models of their top of the line series, feature a dedicated hardware solution suitable for guitar input, etc.
But then, the VAmp 2 is currently selling at 99€, probably the cheapes solution around. And, using a proper guitar, it does some good overdriven tones as well.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Sorry for going off topic and thanks everyone for your help.

Haven't had any time for music recently, but just d/l'ed the demo. Sounds like it might tempt me. Weird FX are always welcome.

I don't think I have a use for that effect. It reminds me more of some new age music than bluesy type of music.
Its true that CamelSpace does excel at doing unusual effects, and does lend it self to dance music etc. I chose to have the presets focus on the less bread'n'butter side of things, because there are a lot of plugins that cover those things well. However, CamelSpace is handy for doing more conventional stuff too (the one screen GUI makes it quick to use), and Tim Conrardys Bread and Butter bank (available free to all registered users) offers this kind of presets. Unfortunately, the demo doesn't allow you to load other banks - otherwise I'd send you a link to it.

Cool :) Can't remember if I mentioned this before in this thread or not, but there's a LUG Group Buy going on (available to all - not just Logic users). Currently its at a 20% discount (111 signups) with another week to go:

Been using TC's bread'n'butter some more. I feel Tim has led the way here.

Using a b'n'b preset as a starting point, I'm able to make sounds become lusher and thicker and have more presence and movement.

This is very useful when one of the sounds inside a mix needs more oomph, but not more volume, or 2,500-4,000khz type presence.

CamelSpace is very effective here.

So yes, I like it for the trance gates and the riddims (which is why I bought it), but the more I use it, the more I find CamelSpace is good for making "straight sounds" feel juicier.

Tim was saying something similar to me - he uses it more for making straight sounds lusher, than for crazy stuff. I'll bear this in mind with regard to any extra banks (eg. if we make the target in the GB) - perhaps another subtle bank would be the most useful thing to add. I'll have a thread on the forum to discuss it, if/when I'm looking at commissioning a new bank.

Yeah definitely :) Maybe I should add a quotes section to the CamelSpace page.

BTW. The group buy has now reached 212 points, so you can now get 25% off CamelSpace or CamelPhat, and 31% off Cameleon.

is 1 point = 1 purchase/user?

Here's the bit from the group buy page:
Because we are offering multiple products, the group buy discount is determined using a points system. Cameleon 5000 is worth two points, and the others (Camel Phat 3, Camel Space, and the Cameleon 5000 Soundbanks Bundle) are worth one point each.
Of course, if one person buys multiple products, then they will contribute several points, and therefore help to reach the next target faster. For example, if they buy every product, that would be 5 points.

Thanks very much to everyone whos signed up so far :)

Well, its not as some have suggested an unhealthy obsession with the animal in question! Here's a very brief synopsis copied from a post in the Camel forum.

Several years ago had gigs to play but no name. Friend brought big drape of a Camel back from India which I had on my wall. Girlfriend at time suggested 'Camel Army'. ( http://www.camelaudio.com/camelarmy ). Decided that was suitably bizarre so played music under that name. Some time later made very first version of CamelPhat. Thought - oh well - go with the Camel thing, and put it out under the name Camel Audio. It was just a little hobby a that stage. Its not like I had a big corporate brainstorming session about the brand image associated with Camel Audio!
