I need spacy, smoke machine type of sounds. Where can I get them?

there is a good site for searching sfx called Sound Dogs (another division of their company does Hollywood films)

to make the sound yourself you'd probably be looking at playing with noise waveforms from your synth and tweaking those a bit.. or also recording some steam noises yourself. some things that come to mind are Irons, a furnace, sizzling food in a frying pan, the hiss of a toilet after it flushes...
crap like that and then you blend the sounds after you've recorded them
the truth is i you would have to be creative like that even with library sounds... i dont think ones like sound dogs have "smoke machine" in their database so you have to improvise just like music.
