all right so I broke down and pre-ordered it..., as a home studio user I figured Sonar studio at only 200 bux was worth the money...I don't need producer though...but I figured it would be a couple of weeks yet before it shipped...

I think I waited less than a week for my S4P upgrade to arrive. I waited a bit longer for P5V2, but a LOT of people took advantage of that particular upgrade, and IIRC it got backordered.

I bought Sonar 4 about a day before the upgrade to 5 was announced but have not seen anything about a free upgrade - I assume that this will be announced at some point.

I'm sure they'll give you a gratis upgrade. Ableton has with Live 5. If not, we'll storm Cakewalk Towers and liberate a copy for you.

My question is whether to buy my upgrade from Cakewalk. Will it be shipped inside the UK (Edirol UK) or will it come from the States?

I'm in the UK so I don't want the added cost of import duty. Is the price on Cakewalks website inclusive of UK VAT? Does anyone know or have clarification about this for those of us who live outside the US? It would save us all emailing Cakewalk individually.

I wish they did a download service. I just want the Pro upgrade. I don't really need the loops or a paper manual. I like the way Ableton allow purchasers to download Live straight away while they wait for the hardcopy to come thru the post.

Edirol UK is the UK distributor for Cakewalk products – as such they are responsible for the import duty of the products they wish to ‘distribute’ within the European Union – being in the UK you will still pay vat on the product you purchase from the edirol.co.uk website + the packaging n postage at about £8

I read a post from a Cakewalk rep, yesterday that the European orders will be coming from a distributor, in Ireland and the VAT, is already included, in the cost, as quoted, on the Cake web shop page. Otherwise, you can still go through your local Edirol distributor, for the upgrade. You can find all the info, on the Cake site, including your choice of getting the full English paper manual or the condensed multi-language one, along with other choices.

I got a couple of direct links from the eidrol uk site for the UK distribution

http://www.edirol.it/europe/products.as ... d=12&la=UK Full Products

http://www.edirol.it/europe/products.as ... d=12&la=UK Upgrade Products

Sometimes its cheaper to wait till they get to the music stores – then you will find examples of big price differences – normally hardware related edirol products though ;)

why is the retail price of Sonar 4 Producer more expensive than Sonar 5 Producer ?

£398.99 compared to £369

looks slightly strange to me

Munchkin; here is the link for buying direct from Cakewalk in the UK(*). It will be shipped from Ireland, and comes from a 'fulfillment centrer', rather than Edirol. The pricing includes VAT. Postage is extra, I believe.

Does anyone happen to know the details for shipping to Canada? i.e. is it shipped from the U.S? ...or a Canadian distributor?

Post

Not offhand, but there's a thread at the Sonar forums regarding the new distribution details, and CW are definitely replying to it...

Cakewalk was emailing people in August that if they bought Sonar 4 they would get a free copy of Sonar 5. You should definitely contact Cakewalk.

And hats off to Cakewalk for letting everyone in the world get a piece of the Cake. IT's a good time to be making music now.

Hey, I used to live in North Chelmsford, about 1/2 mile from the road you are describing. I now live south of Boston.
