I have a Motorola V710. I can email midi files to it for ringtones. Some work and some do not. I am getting them from various places online, and cannot seem to see a difference in them. The same thing happened with my old phone, an LG. I have tried opening them in FL Studio and resaving them, and some work, others don't. Anyone know what ones work?

It may have to do with the polyphony or something... ehm, how many voices there are playing at a time. The limit may be 14. Also some phones may only have implemented a subset of the full GM possibilities.

Go to www.midi.org, there is a section on midi for portable devices.
My MusicCalc is temporary offline.

Maybe the instruments used in the ones that don't work don't actually make any sound. Try altering the MIDI patches and see if it makes any difference.

Some phones only have a limited set of GM sounds.

It was Thunderbird, my email program. I used my webmail instead. The phone seemed to like it better.

i just got a new Sony Ericsson. the usb cable will cost as much as i paid for the phone unfortunately. i didnt have luck emailing the ringtone to it i had to go through some service which i'm reluctant to do again.

well anyways, does anyone know of a resource for finding out the midi instruments on your phone? that's definitely not in the manual! i'm wondering would patch 4 and 5 yield the same electric piano? probably of course. well anyways, i wish there was a system to really get down and dirty with my phone and figure out how it sounds as a sound module.
