The legendary Cheetah SpecDrum! I had one too. :D

It actually had a good little pattern editor, all things considered.

Here's an article:

The state-of-the-art Spectrum emulators now emulate the SpecDrum, so if you really want to feel nostalgic,

here's an emulator:

And here's the software:

(Looking at this now, I'd completely forgotten that it had replaceable drum kits!)

Cakewalk on Windows 3.x (I think).

Started out on this piece of fantastic MIDI sequencer together with a Roland D-10 and sometimes a Juno-1, Proteus-1 and TR-505.

On PC I was first using TakeTracker, then moved on to FastTracker II. Used FT2 for along time. Got Cakewalk Pro Audio 8 as a gift some time, but didn't really use it much. Some years later I got a great bargain on Cubase SX2 and never looked back since.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know if it's possible to run Notator with an ST emulator? I still have the diskettes and the dongle.

back at the reformatory I had me a harmonica

aparently it is possible. find 'tims atari midi world' website, and i think there is info there.
STEem is a good emulator, i have used ims on it ( that is what Muzys evolved from, originally a really sweet little atari sequencer ).

Hmm... didn't find any info. Looked around manually on the site and also ran this search on Google: notator steem site:tamw.atari-users.net

Anyway, did some more Googling and pretty much get the impression that this is the most common ST emulation question, but there is no solution to it because of the dongle.

Anyone handy with a soldering iron want to make a PCI card I can plug my Notator dongle into? :P

Still sorry for hijacking the thread. Now back to old DAWs :)

hmmm.
i still think tim conrardy is the one to ask about this. i kind of forgot about the damn dongle. I wonder if there is some pc external that can take that style of cartrige?

btw: first ever sequencer i used was the one in the roland mc 202. messed with it and the pro one. Also the little programmable arpegiator in the pro one. after that, the first digital sequencer i used was in the roland d-10, but i moved to the qx 21 by yamaha right after that. then creator (same as notator basically)

I actually started out with tape and a cutting machine in my early years, but first host to work with was cubase on an atari512. Probably why I'm still happy with 5.1

I started with the c-64 to, using steinbergs pro-16 software. Not exactly my definition of user-friendly, but I made a lot of tracks with it. :D

It was also my first experience with copy-protection, becasue it had some kind of protection on the disc. That ment I often had to load it 2-3 times before it worked.

i had a really crude sound sampler on my sinclar spectrum 128k, but i couldn't really compose with it. my first real music software was octaMED on the amiga (given away free on an issue of CU), then FT2 on the PC. then i tried the demo of FL for a few months, then a few years later i was a logic user. now Tracktion! :D :D
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
