I recommend the CD 'Ten Easy Pieces' by Jimmy Webb, where he plays and sings his greatest hits by himself. Mostly piano with a few other instruments here and there.

The title says it all: many Webb songs are deceptively simple but once you look at them more closely you can see his genius in the chord progressions, melodies and even lyrics.

Songs like 'Galveston','Highway Man' and 'Wichita Lineman' take on a whole new dimension when he plays and sings them himself.

I'm not putting Webb down; obviously he is a genius. It's just not for my taste at all.

My favorite of Jimmy Webb's is "All I Know" which was covered by Art Garfunkel. It's a very beautiful song. :)
