You can load a VSTi and assign it a MIDI port and channel, so you can play the VSTi with your controller.
Then you can route the VSTi to a FileRecorder, and set up the recorder to punch in and out in any section of the timeline (by automating the Record button). This way, you can record your performance as audio. You can play back the audio with a LoopPlayer or even with the same FileRecorder you used. Just remember removing automation for recording or your audio file will be modified.
After you recorded the audio you can delete the VSTi and save some CPU. Audiomulch forces you to freeze tracks
