ChoirsX & DuosX

Image
ChoirsX
Is a 14 Voice choir generator.

ChoirsX turns a single voice into 8, or 14 unison voices,
with its own pitch, timing and vibrato variations.
Those voices can be spread across the stereo field.

Assign one ChoirsX VST to your two, three or more voices of a vocal recording
and you will get a full choir impression.

Here is a one voice input mp3 demo:
http://www.soundspectral.com/ChoirsX_compare.mp3

and the same mp3 take with 4 voices created by ChoirBoy, than run through ChoirsX:
http://www.soundspectral.com/ChoirsX_4vDemo.mp3

The takes are switched between ChoirsX and the other product (was set to 16 voices).

(guess what is what ;) )

CPU of ChoirsX is between 3.5 - 4.5% on our P4 2ghz, the other around 20% :-o .

DuosX
Image
DuosX produces a doubled vocal from an existing vocal track or live input.
With adjustable random variation for timing, pitch, and vibrato depth.

After each breath take, the VST is switched between DuosX and the other product:

The CPU usage of the other product is around 10%
(had to remove the screenshots links)

Well, I incorporated your suggestions below
and extended your idea a bit, in both plugins :)
Jaeson Merrill (17 Sep 2005) wrote:i think this isnt the same as duo.

with duo, i think it does things more RANDOMLY, for instance, random pitch variations, and random timing variations. also the vibrato in duo analyzes the actual vibrato and creates differing vibrato off of this.

what vst doubler does is applies a constant pitch difference and a constant timing difference, which can easily be done by just cloning a track and raising the pitch of one, and moving it over a couple of ms, then putting an amplitude modulation plugin over it, or automate the volume up and down, which is all "vst doubler" does. You would actually have much more control doing it the manual way.

All in all, this is a good tool, but not one of a kind certainly. It would be nice to find something that actually DID what antares AVOX said it did (which it doesnt at all) but this plugin isnt exactly it.

thanks midiworks tho, nice effort.
Jaeson, please try the new demo when availabe,
and tell me what you think.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, that vibrato is now also
controled by the audio input. ;)

For people too lazy to record more than one track? :P

Or computers that can't handle to many tracks all running Voxformer, EQ, Pristine Space etc.

i've been using a beta that has the random function. this thing has saved me much time. before i'd record 4 vocal tracks and mix and match snippets that had the closest timing. i'd still have to automate the volume to make things match up. with duosx, i just do one take. the result sounds doubled AND tight

Is this the new Cher sound?

Post

New Cher sound?
Who knows...

But btw, we planed to add a plugin that will do that "Belive" sound !

No joke, maybe we call it then CherX. :hyper:

so you plan on implementing an auto-tune as well? All that effect is is a quick attack on the pitch correction....

No, not at all, Auto-Tune is a great product !
I will not even try that...

But quickly pitching the input to the nearest note value, should'nt be to hard.
(I hope...)

This would still be light years away from auto tuning.
But neverless maybe an interesting effect. ;)

instead of the nearest note value I wonder if you can make a step or interval selector for the note it changes to...;)
