I want Kjaerhus GDE-1

there's a just few essential studio effects which are really mandatory for most styles - and one of them is delay... - yes, this is just another delay thread - there are a few good ones out there, e.g. Retro Delay, Trimmetry Tapper, the Kjaerhus Classic Delay and the Analogflux Delay - however none of them is for me the real deal - I can't put the finger exactly on why not but it's a mixture of features and usability - I need fx which sound fantastic, are easy to tweak, and do everything I could want from that type of effect so that I usually don't have a need for anything else in that category... - GCO-1 is doing this for me as a compressor - for delay the Classic Delay is close - now please give us a Golden Delay, Torben!

What's wrong with Ohmboyz or the PSP delays? Those are pretty flexible as well as nice sounding.

I forgot to mention that the price is alos of imnportance - they're just outside my price range so I never even tried them...Josmoker wrote:What's wrong with Ohmboyz or the PSP delays? Those are pretty flexible as well as nice sounding.

I agree.
I would buy a Kjaerhus GDE-1 in a heartbeat.

I'd like to see that delay also. Classic Delay is the ONLY delay I've used for the last 6 months or so (I've tried all the "best" delays so far, even the one that was released a week ago or so...). It's damn easy to use and it's "tape delay" mode has something to it's sound that I like very much. The only problem with Classic Delay is that it's a bit simple delay, so it doesn't fit all the jobs I'd like to use it for...
So if Torben would come up with a delay which would be VERY easy and intuitive to use and could do Classic Delay's sounds and more, I'd buy it in an instant. Ofcourse the delay should be able to do a bit more complex delays also.
It would be nice to have separate delay times for left and right channel, and a cross feed level (to the other delay line) for both of these delay lines.
Logic Audio's Stereo Delay has almost perfect set of features and amazingly intuitive GUI, but the sound just isn't there (and the plugin isn't VST, so I can't use it in my current projects). If Torben's delay would have similar feature set plus stereo panning option for the incoming signal and the tape/analog/digital switch, I'd be in heaven. I don't need anything more complex than that. Just ease of use and great sound.

Great to see that we agree here!
(well at least almost, as I would like to see a maximum of three or four taps)

OH! One more thing: If/when Torben decides to do the Golden Delay, I would very much like to be in the beta testing group
I'm enthusiastic Kjaerhus plugin user and a software developer, so it might be a good hybrid set of "features" for a beta tester
EDIT: I hope the Golden Delay will have that exact same "Tape Delay" sound in it as the Classic Delay has. It just sounds perfect! Golden Delay could have 3-9 different modes along the tape/analog/digital ones. For example it could have 3 different tape delay algorithms etc... Just like GCO-1 has lots of different envelope types.
EDIT2: Logic's Stereo Delay could be extended this way:
- Add two extra delay lines.
- Give each delay line a pan knob, instead of panning them hard left/right.
- Give all delay lines 4 feed knobs. One for each delay line (so one of them is actually a feedback knob for the delayline's own input).
That's about it. Now there could be that additional Tape/Analog/Digital switch with the "quality" knob.
EDIT3: Here's the Stereo Delay's GUI I've been talking about which is near perfect, but could be extended

I'd love this one as well. Especially if changing the delay times in the different modes sounded differently. For instance an analog delay will pitch up or down when changing delay times, whereas an old digital delay (think Roland DD-1 stomp box) will make this great digital grinding noise when you'd quickly change the delay time. I'd love to see that implemented in a Golden Delay, the same way Line 6 has modelled those characteristics in their delays. In fact I used one of the digital delay grindy sounds from my Guitarport as an intro/outro noise to a song I worked on, and I just couldn't find a VST plug-in that did the same, they all just did the stock dub delay pitch bends.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

I'm with you all the way - so far I've only demoed the Kjærhus plugins, but they do sound fantastic, and at some point I would be all over a Golden Delay!

Ohmboyz is cheaper than both GCO-1 and GEQ-7. It's unlikely that a Golden Delay would be any cheaper.
Personally, I think Audio Damage's Ronin is the best delay out there, but given its complexity, might not be for everyone. There are a lot of great ones out there, both free and commercial. I like the low-fi setting on Classic Delay, but one thing that has always bothered me with Classic Delay is that if anything is going to emulate analog or tape delays, it must change pitch appropriately when you change the delay rate.
The only tape delay emulation I know of that does this for Windows is P-1 TapeDelay. There are a few analog emulations that do: Ronin, Dubstation, Kiesel Freedelay, Retrodelay. The PSP 42 does too, (and presumbaly the 84) but it emulates a digital delay instead.
So, what specifically are you looking for in a delay?

If Torben could make a GDE as silky smooth as GMO-1 I would definitely buy it, at just about any price. I tape echo section would be a plus as well. I really like the retroplex in stylus, I wish I could run audio through that...

Being the delay slut I am, I would buy it. I disagree about the tape mode in Classic being perfect though, it could definately use some improving. It seems to get too crunchy with the quality down low.
Ronin is really nice sounding and really versatile. However a comparable design by Torben would be even nicer, with the 3 (or more) delay types and quality parameter. With smooth pitch changes, a few LFOs to control pan, delay time, filtering, feedback, etc. GDE would kick ass.

How about a feature set wishlist guys?
Here are mine:
4 independent delay lines with controls for:
Type: (analog, tape, digital)
Delay Time, Feedback, Tone, Quality, Pan, Mix, with syncable LFO's attached to the delay time. Throw the filters from Classic Auto Filter in the delay line, with syncable LFO's for these as well. I would also ideally want a global mix parameter on top of the ones for the independent lines.
The digital and analog/tape delays should sound different when modulating the delay time. I'd want the wierd pitchshift w/ a digital grind when modulating the delay time on the digital model (like I said above, or check out the Boss DD-1 stompbox), whereas I'd want the slinky dub kind of pitch fun with the analog and tape models. I would also of course want the ability for seemingly never ending delays, not all delays do this.
This would (in my mind at least) would be an amazing classic delay/autofilter hybrid on mescaline. This would be my ideal Golden Delay. So here's for free R&D...BTW, Torben, I'm just being picky, don't start pulling hair out or anything.
