I wanted to get it too, but after a few weeks I gave up. It produces too much artifacts, but the main reason is that it makes vocal sound like mp3 or thin and 2d, muffled. I went back for Autotune in graphic mode

Ok, so, I ponyed up for uno, and my initial testing seems to show that, outside the melodyne playback engine, the 'thin mp3' thing isn't a problem.
The down-side is that the rewire application uses the melodyne playback engine, and so I'm really left with melodyne as a stand-alone app. And, actually, that's fine with me.
I think melodyne is a pretty good autotune replacement. The vocal I worked on tonight had only minor pitch problems, but pretty uneven vibrato and some problems on the tails of longer notes. This stuff is tricky to get at in autotune -- based on my experiements with the demo -- and is impossible to fix with any non-graphic pitch correction.
I actually found the formant control to be very useful. Parts of this song put the singer in a falsetto that sounded corny, and bringing down the formant a touch took the edge off.
I don't know. Initial impressions, with the filtered/exited/mp3 thing gone, I'm pretty pleased with this thing.

True.oh, and forget about the overpriced waves stuff
Yet if you buy via AMS you can pay it off on their intrest free 5 month plan, but even still it is rather expensive.
(there's some other plugs that come with the bundle which helps as well)

I forget where I read this, but apparently the best way to work with Melodyne is by not loading the entire vocal track into it and then fixing it, but to break down the vocal track into sections, or at least the parts that need improvement, and editing those instead. Something about the the whole big file rendering worst quality and artifacts when being edited than smaller files. Honestly, if this is true, then I wouldn't mind doing the extra work of setting up certain cuts of the vocal track and fixing those if it yields better results. I think Melodyne is (or should be) a better pitch correction tool than AutoTune.
Also the previous post about a clean vocal track compared to a noisier vocal track holds true. I think that in the manual if I'm not mistaken...

i wonder how samplitudes elastic audio matches up to this.

You gotta do it all manually in SX3.klagga wrote:Why don´t you use SX3? It has realtime time stretching and pitch shifting. Or is it really that bad?
I must say that, from the concept (no idea how it sounds yet), Samplitude has got the implementation spot on as it integrates in your sequencer workflow, rather than just being a plugin or slaved second application.
I'm sure we'll see things like that in future updates of the big sequencers.

Wgat exactly did you mean when mentioned Waves? As far as I know there's no plug that can be used for voacal correction. Their Soundshifter is a joke. Interface is small and impossible for precise adjustments

I was refering mainly to Soundshifter which is the only 'fine tuning' plug i've ever worked with. Many judge this plug by trying it out too quickly, but once you get used to it you see it's value. For instance, if a singer is singing a note correctly then gets off for a split second then gets back on key Soundshifter can seemlessly 'push' that dip in the note up to the rest of the note without any artifacts - unlike many other 'static' pitchshifters due to the 'curve' of the dip (other pitch shifters have a hard time correcting 'S' shaped dips). Also, once you get used to the interface it's helpful due to the very fact that it is small (you can zoom in or out on the audio material so that precision isn't a problem).

I too had my hopes up for Melodyne. I'm sure it's got alot going in it, but the user interface seems easy one minute - then 'where the frig am I?' the next? I was fairly impressed with the demo, and figure the vocals would blend in well with the music, be it rock, techno, pop, etc. But to have Melodyne do a pristine accapella track.... Fire the producer and vocalist first.
I just couldn't get into the interface myself. Though I detest the MS Paper Clip 'helper', I think Melodyne could definately benefit by having one to help walk a Lame-O like me through it.

The 'where the frig am I' problem is hideous. Especially if you're used to hitting stop-stop to return to your last start position. Melodyne, on stop-stop, puts you back to very beginning of the clip.
I think there's some way of moving the right-hand marker along as you go. Haven't sorted that out yet . . . would definitely help matters.
The rest of the interface isn't insurmoutably horrible. It's a little regrettably that so many of the tools make the cursor look the same, so it's not clear which tool you've got.
I have the idea that you should be able to double-click on a note to knock it in tune. That doesn't seem to work for me. I wind up going thru the autotune button, which brings up another screen, so it's 3 clicks per correction. Not so bad . . .

I'd love to see an app really good in tuning vocals. I imagine it as a vst effect, almost of full-screen size, with quick zoom possibilities like ctrl+mouse-scroll or similar, improved recognition of Autotune and plus high-quality timestretch with possibility to set it differently on any chosen area along with the pitchshift, right VST implementation. That'd be a killer one. I wouldn't mind it to be Waves with PACE or whatever.

ditto, I'd pay 149$ for it in a second.omo wrote:I'd love to see an app really good in tuning vocals. There should be some kind of scale snap menu in the top part of the screen. You have to select something before it works. Sorry I'm not specific but I haven't used the software that much.bobby yarrow wrote:I have the idea that you should be able to double-click on a note to knock it in tune.
