I've seen and heard this bands tune called 'Reunion' a few times, and it's catchy and cute. But one time I caught a bit of this song of theirs on Much More Music that blew me away. It was the female guitarist singing, and the video was really darkly lit. I just caught 'Stars', and didn't make out the song name? I was being hurried out the door, so had to miss most of it.

Sometimes Much/More Music gets the bands or song titles wrong when they play video's, but I just saw a contest to go see/win a Stars CD or something - and there was a brief clip of that freakin' video again! I haven't been this excited since I briefly caught 'Only Shallow' by MBV once - oh so long ago. :hyper:

So what song is this, and is it off their latest album?

BTW - Feist is really hot as well. ;)

they played at western a few times and my buddy caught a set in montreal. someone just lent me the album and it's decent but i'm still baffled by the choice of the first single (absolute worst track on the album).

i'm noticing, you;re either a dears fan or a stars fan (i have no idea why because they're both completely different but oh well). i guess i'm a dears fan...

I have two of their albums, "Heart," and "Set Yourself on Fire," their latest, and I recommend them both.

I'm not sure which song you heard, but I can tell you that "Set Yourself" is a remarkable album, one that bears many repeat listens. I enjoy their blend of the acoustic and the electronic.

Here's their Web site:

Canada is really kicking ass with the whole indie music thing.

Ageless Beauty?

Best song on the album.
Steve.
I know I have got a negative edge, that’s why I sharpen all the others a lot.

yeah, i caught feist's set at nxne two years ago (at the reverb). i thought it was awful and everyone around me thought it was amazing. and when i heard death from above 1979 or whatever they're called, i thought they were god awful. now, since i've heard it too many times because they play it at every non-house/non-euro/non-techno/non-clubby bar in the city at least 2 times a night, i'm starting to think the single is alright but the rest of the album is like chinese water torture

at least over the past five years, radio has figured out that there's more to canadian music than shania and the headstones (and thank god for that). even though this new crap is barable at best, it's better that hearing the treble charger, rusty, nickleback, sum 41 and the killjoys all day long. it used to be that the canadian content was the worst stuff on the radio. now, it's about on par with the crappy american music

Thanks a bunch guys, and Steve Newton especially! :hail: That Reunion song is quirky at best, and does put off a person like me from buying the CD cold. Made that mistake with The Verve years ago. ;) But that gal in the band puts me in mind of Belinda Butcher from MBV, and hope she does more songs on the CD than the bloke does. He's good too - but that Reunion song... I guess if they're trying to scoop fans of Grease or something?

They got guts, and guts is enough! :hihi:

Thanks again gents! :D Oh yeah, and The Dears are a good band as well. Alot of interesting Canadian talent is surfacing indeed. And took only what, 25 years? Bedouin Soundclash, Mokka Only (from The Swollen Members), just lots of gals and guys I'm really impressed with lately.

How come everytime Bryan Adams releases a record, it pisses off so many to do something good?

You can hear more of Stars' music at http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/ar ... nd_Id=6298. Maybe the song you heard is one of those.

Thanks Peel, but no 'Ageless Beauty' there. :(

They're either Canada's answer to MBV or The Sugarcubes - but I hope the gal does more stuff like Ageless Beauty on their next CD 'Lesslove' ;)
