I don't want to write a long reply, because I think we've already covered this to death. Of course you're welcome to hold your own opinion, and if you choose not to use hardware-protected software, then that's choice. However, you wrote:

Their master wav doesn't self destruct when the contract expires, or when I change the light bulbs in my studio, or when they die, or when I do.

In the case of dongled, and some call-home software, that *does* happen. I get locked out of my project at some arbitrary point in the future. I can't store a project that depends on specific software, together with the software product, in a time capsule, and have people in 2125 open it and pick up where I left off.
You're absolutely right about call-home software, but hardware-protected software like Philharmonik has no such time limit on it. You can install it on your computer and it'll keep working forever. You could store your computer in a time capsule, send it 100 years into the future, and Philharmonik will still run (as will SampleTank, Sonik Synth 2, and other IK software).

You're welcome to your own views, and I respect that. I just think it'd be a shame if someone decided to miss out on Philharmonik because of a misunderstanding about the protection.

Yes but I doubt something like a hardware dongle will last 100 years.

I once bought a Doom shareware license and now I lost it. Didn't even last 10 years. Imagine if I'd had a dongle! ;)

The USB key is essentially solid-state memory with some logic - essentially the same stuff that the rest of your computer is made of.

There are no moving parts - only a tiny electrical current flowing through it. I certainly expect my USB keys to outlast me.

Beardedone..

Seeing my comment in print it seems a lot harsher than the off-hand joke I meant it to be. I hope you didn't take offense and if so, my apologies.

Hey don't worry. No offense taken sir! I realized you were joking. I've been on this forum a longtime.
