a few orion questions as this seems to be the place to ask them:
1) PDC?
2) is it CPU intensive?
3) Freeze tracks?
4) how does its MIDI compare to the big sequencers?
5) Does it support VST or do you need a wrapper? Are there any known issues with any VST plugins?
6) Aside from WASP, what other "generators" or instruments are there and are they any good?
Just curious because i've been thinking about trying out the Cubase alternatives because its a bit bloated.

1) Yes
2) No, especilly v6 with its SSE optimizations
3) Irrelevant [see 2)]
4) It uses the same MIDI as everybody else has for 25 years [sorry, couldn't resist and I have no idea]
5) It supports VST/i, DX/i, ReWire [slave/host] and a gazillion sample formats.
6) Its sampler is already amazing and getting better with every release, it has a 3 osc wavetable synth, a Wave Morphing Sampler, a 303 clone, a plucked string modelled synth and Screamer which you need to experience for yourself. It also has the best collection of native effects you will find.

With the IRC, it doesn't really need it any more anyway so who cares? And I think Rich has already fixed that in the current beta but I dunno for sure because I don't use anything that requires it.

And yet when we were all using Pentium II 300's there was no such thing and we all managed to be perfectl;y productive. Now I have literally 10 times the processing power it seems even less relevant than once it may have.Jaeson Merrill wrote:freeze can be relevant in any host.

If Image-Line wrote sytrus with the same features and everything, but two years earlier, it would have been twice as fast. Software just gets inherently slower because coders are getting sloppy because managers are assholes

then make a 2x faster sytrus and show me.If Image-Line wrote sytrus with the same features and everything, but two years earlier, it would have been twice as fast. Software just gets inherently slower because coders are getting sloppy because managers are assholes
Sytrus has 2 oscillator processing blocks, one in serial for FM, one in parallel to process unlinked stuff faster. Both in full asm of course.
The rest is in parallel, full asm again. Mixing & filters using 3Dnow, SSE & SSE3.
On my AMD 64 3.2ghz, sytrus can play 100 oscillators in 6% CPU.
Why do you think it's slow then? Because it's easy to make it 40x slower, by setting the unison to 9x and the oversampling to 4x. You just need to be careful. I don't want to babysit users and remove the oversampling & limit the unison.

I think its probably more like things in 3D animation. Global Illumination techniques have been around for 10 years or more but they only started appearing in 3D applications once computers were fast enough to be able to do the calculations in a reasonable time-frame. Same with my SE instruments, I suppose. When I first started makingthem they were mostly monophonic but since I got my new Athlon64 that has become irrelevant and all the new ones are polyphonnic.
