FLstudio exporting midi

I'm having trouble exporting midi from FLstudio. I've found the "prepare for midi export" tool which does what it should (converting all the channels to midi outs) but when I try to export the file, I get a very slow cpu-intensive rendering, resulting in an empty midi file. I've tried deleting all the sampler channels leaving only VST instruments but it doesn't make any difference

Can anyone help?

ok thanks for that.... well I've got all the channels converted to midi out with notes in the piano roll. Is that enough? I have the song organised in patterns not all in one piano roll - does that matter?

nope. There is an easy way to find out... :hihi:
Now just export midi instead of wave. Note that if you are compiling a big gm file ,the instruments can be at odd octaves.
..what goes around comes around..

okay ...

i took a project i'm working with , and used 'prepare for midi export' ...
i then rendered to midi ...
the resultant file imports back into FLS w/ no problems ...
as you noted , the render process does take a bit of time ...

note that this was one pattern , of seven channels , in pattern mode ...

please note that this file does not play back in , for instance , win-amp ...
is this what you're trying to do ?...

i'll next try the midi-out channel method ...

yeah I tried exporting just one pattern of beats which worked fine. I didn't expect the midi file to play in anything else incidentally, just open again in another sequencer or Flstudio itself

ok I emptied the mixer channels and now it seems to work! Not sure if that's just a coincidence...

midi-out channel method ...
a bit more time consuming , but non-destructive ...

add a midi-out channel for each exisiting channel ...
copy the midi data from each channel into the corresponding midi-out channel ...
export to midi ...
wait ...

same results as above ...
once again , in pattern mode ...

it occurs to me that i don't know if this works for multiple patterns , in song mode , as i never use that method ...

the documentation is unclear on the subject ...

best to ask at the imageline forum ...
