i need a plugin that will literally jus cut off peaks above a threshold, with no alogrithm that adds any colour or attempts to make it sound nice. like what happens when you slam the cubase master (assuming thats true clipping).

im sure i can prob do this with some plugs i already own that maybe dont opperate at floating point (is thats all thats required for it to clip the output?). but something with a movable threshold would be a lot more practical, so i dont have to adjust the mix in any way.

i have elephant which has a clipping mode, but its still semi-limiting from what i hear, and not truely cutting the peaks dead off.

sure there must be some simple freeware that does eactly what i need? anyone..

thanks

Hiwm,

What you're asking for would be hard clipping distortion. Not what you want to hear there I guess. Stick with Elephant and learn to use it properly I would say. :)

I imagine that IS what he is looking for.
Easy to program but as he says there must be
someone that already did it.... question still remain.....

You could do this in an audio editor, but that would be more work than a plug in. hmmmm...
..what goes around comes around..

i want it allso maybe some kind of block limiter or smthing

RetroDelay has a digital clipper as far as I remember.

Don't know if it sounds truly digital and cold, though :D

Funny, everyone wants to avoid digital clipping, but you.... :D

Fruity Soft clipper should be able to that

Here's something simple I just whipped up. Nothing fancy, no GUI or anything like that. Just 3 parameters - pre gain, threshold, post gain.

Win32 VST only.

Hope you find it useful.

Yes, I know (I must suppress my own sarcasm :D)
Seriously: Congratulation, really quick work !!

Although dblue actually made one whilst I was knocking this up in Synthedit, I thought I'd still post this anyway because it has a couple of different features! :)

Here's the quick one I created in SE:

You can get the file here.

You can clip the left and right signals independantly and use different negative and positive clipping values. Also you can control the effect by cc messages:

cc21 = left clip +
cc22 = left clip -
cc23 = right clip +
cc24 = right clip -

Hope this helps (and that isn't sarcastic either, PeterL! ;) :hihi: )

well unless you can get hard clippping out of elephant then it is of no use to me in this situation. thanks for your advice though!

this thread may sound odd to some people (ok everyone), but i want the digital clipping that every man and his dog tries to avoid. there are a few places in certain production where its of more use than limiting.
