i use all types of distortion on my drums....from fuzz to overdrive...also comprression before.....sometimes compression after (will give that aliasing sound)...also sampling drum sounds from vinyl then compressing can get some raw sounds as well..just a few ideas. i prefer dirty drums over clean drums most of the time. a lot of it is just experimenting with different plugins and different settings....then just save as a preset and it's there for the next time.

well clip mode in el still kills the dynamics like a limiter (jus not quite as much), whereas true clipping doesnt, it jus creates nasty distortion instead. my thoughts were then confirmed when i read in the manual:electro wrote:Where did you hear this?wm wrote: i have elephant which has a clipping mode, but its still semi-limiting from what i hear, and not truely cutting the peaks dead off.
Elephant also features a so called "Clip" mode. This mode works as a "clean" hard saturation limiter. I.e., it sounds cleaner than the ordinary clipping you can get overdriving the signal in a sound editor.

sure, you're much too good for that nowadays.soundpalace wrote:lol this topic is cool ! To get that REALLY heavy sound out of a bass drum, I used to digital clip the sample too and it sounded like your typical hardcore dance stuff. I obviously don't do that anymore ... lolOnly compressors go on Dance bass drums these days

well you gotta admit, its a refreshing change... no?I just love digital clipping. Seriously, I allways wanted some controllable digital clipper without having to bounce down.
And uhm, all those lame hosts with their lame uber-headroom. Just can't clip those motherfucking individual channels without gazillions of gainer plugins.
Warmth sucks!
at least, i could bring an opportunity for you all to show-off your wit, however predictable and simple

Developers need to take advance of digital things rather than trying to emulate analog things.
So, digital clipping might become what analog warmth was.
Of course not, but when you think about it, there might be some truth to it...

not everyone. There are still some analogue purists out there.

That might be one of the next waves. After samplers, analogue synths, FM synths, additive synths, analogue warmth tube softdivers, amp sims, etc. maybe there will be something new on the horizon.

I (heart) dblue.Clipper. Just toying with it in a few minutes here, it's made Slayer sound really truly nasty and turned a drum loop into a crazy gabber mess. And when I run both of them through it on the same channel, the drums gate the guitar in a nifty lopsided way...

I've been using it in a couple of new tracks myself after coding it. Who knew such a ridiculously simple thing could come in handy? I guess that old saying "less is more" really is true.
