I am having trouble getting miroslav to stay in contact with sonar 4; say I am playing a couple of midi tracks and then hit the spacebar to stop playback- after I do that I can no longer hear miroslav out of the speakers through my controller nor can I hear playback again if I hit the spacebar. Sonar told me to try the VST version of miroslav (I was using the DXi version), which I did, but the same thing is happening. Anybody have any ideas? (IK multimedia told me how to uninstall the .ini files and all of that so I don't think that's the issue, can't find anyone else with this issue so maybe I'm doing something wrong, just can't call them this weekend and I'm worried that though I'm already registered if I have to uninstall it again I will pass my "10 days to register" timeframe and it will be in demo mode forever...paranoia :?:

I find that sometimes with certain VSTs for some reason the audio engine in Sonar 4 sometimes turns itself off. First check and make sure your audio engine is on (second button from the right near the transport controls). Hope this helps.

Does this happen with all MV patches, or just some of them?

Thanks for the ideas- I tried checking to see if it was indeed the audio engine (which turns off during playback by the way, but sounds are still heard, and then it turns on again after stopping playback,I don't know if this is normal)but on one of my songs it is having trouble with only one of the tracks, specifically the staccato strings short AMV (from the full strings section), so maybe I am having issues with particular instruments. I'm not sure- I haven't yet had time to test several instruments, and in any case sometimes it seems to work and sometimes it doesn't (I will have time to do some further testing later today). Any ideas as to what the problem might be? thanks again...

I have noticed that in Sonar 3 or 4, as well as P5v2, the "Swell" value on the "Macro" screen will automatically get reduced down to a value of "50" every time I engage the transport on all of the "AMV" patches. This effectively renders these patches inaudible.

I've just been avoiding the "AMV" patches for the time being. I haven't gotten around yet to digging deeper into the issue.

Yes I think you are right- I seem to be having trouble only with the AMV patches too. Please let me know if you figure out a way to get the swell value to remain higher because I prefer the AMV patches in general and I would like to use them!

Thanks

Swell being reset to 50 is due to your sequencer setting the modwheel to 0 upon playback. There are a few solutions:
  • Configure Sonar so that it doesn't send a modwheel (CC1)=0 message every time playback begins. This is probably not ideal though, because then the modwheel will be set to whatever it was set at last, which means that it might not be set to what you want it to be.
  • Insert your own modwheel values at the start of each phrase. In fact, use the modwheel for expression control throughout each phrase (the way it was designed to be used). Of course, you'll get more out of the AMV patches this way.
  • Deallocate the modwheel assignment from the patch. Click the "CTL" button at the top of the plugin, then click on any knob, then click on the text "1-Modulation Wheel" and drag down until it reads "n/a". Click OK.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips Kim. I'll give them a shot and see how they work.

I'm not using Miroslav, but I had the same problem with some Concretefx plugs. Switched from ASIO to WDM, and the problems evaporated.

Ok, after reading Kim's tips and then trying them out, I now understand that the AMV patches are there so you can ride the modwheel to control the volume of an instrument in order to play it more expressively. If I don't want to ride the modwheel as I play, then I shouldn't use an AMV patch.

What was confusing me is that on the AMV patches the default swell level is set full blast until you use the modwheel, at which point the swell immediately drops from 127 down to 50. But I've got it sorted now.

Thanks again Kim for the help. And thanks to Squids for the 50 eSoundz combis. There are some really nices ones in that bank.

Thanks Kim. Yes I suppose we should use it as intended :-)...
