Soniformer doesn't have resolution to perform what I need.

What Q or b/w resolution do you need?

The biggest problem with Soniformer is really not related with resolution (witch is relative ok). One of the main problems is that the thing is not really spectral, it doesn't compress the spectrum, it compresses bands.

The difference is that at different levels of the mix, the effect will be different. If it really were a spectral worker, the thing would compress in the same way for all levels of the input.

The problem with this is that for a good peak removal, we will lost:

Dynamics and depth, things I don't really want to give away.

spectral monkeyage is a spectral compressor of sorts. It allows you to expand the sound so that loud frequencies are emphasized and quiet ones are diminished (dynamically), or vice versa.
shineyfx makes it but as I remember the link has moved from it's usual spot.

is that track recorded with clipping? if so record it again. that's always the best option if you record it with too hot of a signal. a clip is a clip...it will be there. it's much easier to record the part again than to try to mask it via weird engineering techniques.
compression's purpose isn't to blow a mix up. you can have compression on certain things in the mix (ex. vocals, drums, bass, guitar)...it will make it much easier in the long run to isolate it on the master with a spectrum analizer and shouldn't effect the overall mix when done right.
took me a long time before i would listen to the idea of the next day open air mixdown. i do that now and get better results with fresh ears, and keep learning stuff, and if a song is worth using i am willing to go back and mix it down again with fresh ears of course.

YES! Spectral monkeyage is perfect. The only problem it's mono input, and using dual mono in parallel, you lose the center (and image). Sonically, it's absolutely perfect, only with some artefacts.

I need exactly something like that, just more solid.

There is a stereo version of Spectral Monkeyage around, but it still leaves artefacts.

Have you tried the Soundhack Spectral shapers? Might be exactly what you're after.

Oh OK then - you need something that compresses regardless of threshold? There are a few of those like some of the Betabugs plugins, Voxengo crunchessor, PSP Mixpressor - let me know what you end up with - I'd be interested too!

One thing I learned by hanging around here and trying out some things I've read is that if you start a threshold based compressor early, like -40 or 50 db, and set the ratio really low then it's always on a little bit regardless of where the program rms or peaks sit - so by the time a nasty volume increase tries to come along it has already been robbed of its' inertia and might be tamed that way also...

If you like that expanded sound you might try PSP MasterComp - I was toying with some interesting sounds last night, no keepers yet but I'm not too good at rebalancing using expansion yet...
