Then you've pretty much done everything T is capable of doing.

A common mistake is to connect midi output to output and input to input: this does not work. You have to connect the midi output of the keyboard to midi input of the Delta.

Thanks folks. Cookie, the cables are definitely hooked up correctly but thanks for mentioning that.

As you are listening to some "echoed piano", this is most likely the default channel 1, preset 1 sound of XPs internal GM MIDI synth (the delay is normal for it, don't worry).
So, to me it seems your MIDI in is all OK. I won't be able to help you with Tracktions internal connections as I don't use it, but I'm sure the solution should be fairly easy.

Oh, and make sure to turn your MIDI keyboard on before you start Tracktion. Some keyboards are sending some "total reset" messages on powering them on, which might add to the confusion.

Allright my friends, here's the latest. When I right click on the midi input icon for the track it tells me "this midi device is being used as an external controller and will not be receiving normal midi."
What's my next step?
Thanks

Hrm. You didn't by chance touch the "external controllers" settings page, did you? If so, make sure that both drop down windows say < no device selected > for the Control Universal AND the C4. Unless you have one of those devices, or a device that is able to emulate them, that page doesn't mean anything. Since you're talking about a Kurzweil keyboard, I assure you that that page should mean nothing and shouldn't be disturbed.
