Process>Quantise is destructive once you save the song. I guess it depends on your definition of destructive editing.

Yes. They sent out an email during mid/late August saying that 5 was coming out soon, and if you upgraded to v4 then, you would get 5 when it shipped. If you bought it before then you wouldn't qualify. I don't know if the offer was available outside NA.thenumber23 wrote:Could you comment on the 3->4 + 5 free deal? Was that if you owned 3 and upgraded to 4 recently, you got the upgrade to 5 free? Thx...

I played with Sonar5 a bit more over the weekend. There's one thing I don't get:
I like Roland TTS-1, but why did they add the NEW Roland synth? It appears to be sample-based, just like the TTS-1. So I'm a bit confused as to why I'm supposed to be excited over the new Roland synth...

My impression is that GrooveSynth's big claim to fame is the 808/909/etc stuff. The fact it does GM is a bonus, and I'd suspect it's somewhat lowgrade, kinda like the GM in the VSC MP1. I've only dinked with Groovesynth on the basis of the x0x sounds.idobs wrote:I played with Sonar5 a bit more over the weekend. There's one thing I don't get:

TTS-1 appears to be a variant of Edirol Hypercanvas - better-quality GM samples, etc... in other words, there's some overlap, but each has qualities that make them better for some purposes than others.
Incidentally, TTS-1 is not locked to Sonar/P5/etc. I've used it in FLS just fine.

What i meant by destructive swing is that you input notes by mouse clicking to the swung quantize locations instead of continuously selecting the notes and processing them.. Also is there finally quantize upon input?

Ah, now I get you. Logic used to do a similar thing to what you're talking about. AFAIK, the Sonar Piano Roll note snap grid (which is what you're really talking about) doesn't have any swing/groove options. They're just straight note divisions - 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc. So you can't get around it by doing anything other than adding your swing via the Process>Quantise method when editing in the Piano Roll.
That said, I believe there are MFX plugins available which might give you the kind of editing environment you're looking for. http://www.musiclab.com http://www.silksound.com/geniesys

You can dot a note and the reletive strength can be set. So In effect you can swing if you want to. Each note can have a numerical value as well different from the set by tempo default but who in there right mind would use it? I will enter notes In PRoll but then edit with value on sequences that are difficult. I divide and suddivide the note set for tempo so to keep things interesting. I did this because I found the swing function ok but not great. We will see what the new midi fx looks like soon enough
