does anyone agree that its much better to download sounds instead of song samples (eg. beats)?
i think one thing thats important is ofcourse to mix sounds and beats is good, etc.. but also originality of sounds and manipulation of them!
i mean how can you be original if your using a beat someone else or others have used!

does anyone agree or have any comments? :box:

because it doesn't matter whether you make a song completely from scratch or from pre-made loops, as long as it's an honest musical representation of your emotions or thoughts. that's why i never understand people who argue against auto-tune, who the hell cares if you can't really sing that well and you need technology to help you out? as long as it's a honest representation of the sounds in your head or the feelings you want to get across.

what style would u be talking about?

Do it the way ya wanna do it and hear it. There are no rules and no specific way that is the right way to go about.

Anyway you can't never trully be 100% original cuz anything in your music will have elements or ideas that remind others of something else.

downloading a few drum hit samples is ok i think; but already-made loops and beats is really lazy, and very unoriginal
blasphemy is a victimless crime

That's probably the most reflected version of what I think I've ever read. I've never really knew anyone who thinks the same in this respect, so props to you.

Sound is sound. It doesn't belong to us. It's there, it's a force. It's something we can harness, so we should, no matter what the rest of society says.

80% of my songs are half chopped loops and half programmed

teh musical genre is also a factor

thanx! yeah, i write from scratch and i use pre-made loops. if i find a loop that really expresses what i want to do i will use it. if i can't find a loop i like i'll write something myself. in the end i still get what i want: a song that i wanted to write. if people want to call aspects of what i do lazy then fine, i didn't write the song for them or to gain approval from them.

with auto-tune i think it's almost immoral not to use it if you can't sing the way you sound in your head. that's why we have this technology, it doesn't replace us in the driver seat it just gets us where we want to go faster and more accurately.

I'm one of those weirdos who uses their ears to judge what's good and what's not (to me.) I threw my "this beat/chord/rhythm has been used before" calculator away yeeeeeeears ago and haven't looked back since :o Smacking your face off an iron radiator whilst being raped by a goat, and recording it, would be original, but would i like it? I dunno. Probably

i agree with the point of "as long as its a honest representation of yourself"!

-but already-made loops and beats is very unoriginal

I never really got this debate. If you're ok with using premade drum sounds, then whats the problem with using a loop? I mean, its hardly difficult to program the midi side of a loop - its the mix and sound design!

I would also say that imo you can get more creative with loops than with individual hits. I love sampling breaks, then hacking a few of them up in the sequence and making derivative beats. Is that any different than if I used a premade kit? Not really, no.

Also, consider the comercial side of things. The people who make music for a living can use loops and greatly cut down the time and effort for a production. I dont think this is wrong at all. If you program a beat from some premade drum hits, then throw in a couple of loops, tweak and mix - this will sound like a new beat to all but the biggest sample spotter.

Post

it depends on the use of them. throwing down the same single measure at the beginning of every measure of your track sure is unoriginal, but when creations like the Tramen break come out of the Amen break, it sure is not unoriginal

start/select, your post should be made a sticky, it's that bang on! :)
