Syndrone is his other project and you should definately check it out on bleep.com.. Ive never heard anything this cool. This guy should be admired for both of these projects.

I like the Syndrone album I heard (lots of screetchy grain stuff), the Machinedrum stuff is... well, it's fun to listen to (again, only ever heard one album), but sometimes it seemed he was really glad he found out how to make Boards Of Canada-like synthsounds.
Nothing groundbreaking, but definitely fun.

Nothing groundbreaking? Dude... Listen to Machinedrums album bidnezz... He takes uneducated ignorant rap music and turns it into beautiful delicate intricate art.. I've never heard anyone do that before.

It's very nice stuff, but a fair few people have done similar things before, and it really isn't particularly groundbreaking. Quite apart from everyone else on Merck, I can think of Funkstorung, Boom Bip, Clouddead, Autechre, Bola, Push Button Objects, Plaid, DJ Shadow, Antipop Consortium, Prefuse 73, and everyone (good) in underground hip hop as forerunners.

Also, 'uneducated' really isn't a good word to criticize music...

I think the most admirable thing about machindrum is that he makes all those cuts and sequences with a tracker (!!! - or is it AudioMulch?? I forget). But yeah, he's definitely not on his own. One more to add would be Daedelius, check him out.

So? Prefuse does his editing and sequencing in an MPC. If you know what you're doing it doesn't really matter what tools you use.

Yah but trackers are insanely tedious.. So it just shows the level of patience.. But i guesse so are mpc's but then again prefuse 73s cuts arent as intricate right?

well, imo, it would be easy to do cuts on a computer and than on a sampler, but it would be easier to sequence on an mpc than on a tracker, so there's a balance of skillz there. this is just my humble opinion.

Prefuse is pretty intricate actually. Listen to some and you'll see. The glitch sound has been in vogue in indie hip-hop for a few years now. It's almost to the point of being played out.

MachineDrum is genious... So is syndrone..
