Any other composers who mix so many stereotypical sounds of other genres into a single song, such as Saigon Pickup?

Also anything else which might make Zorn's compositions unique?

Frank Zappa did this a lot, especially when playing live. Check out the album, "The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life". Mr. Bungle also mixes a lot of different genres into single songs. Not too surprisingly their first album was produced by Zorn. All of these people work(ed) with excellent musicians which I think makes it easier to do this.

I'm not sure there is a genre he didn't use at one time or another. He was fond of classical composers such as Stravinsky and Varèse so you'd hear something from "Rite of Spring", for example, followed by the theme from Bonanza done to a Reggae beat, all in the context of one of his songs. Much of this was done for comedic purposes. On the album I mentioned before, he did a cover of "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" interspersed with "Louie, Louie" and the theme to The Godfather. To clarify, he did do a lot of this on studio albums too. I'm sure there's some serious Zappa fans that can give better examples.

I was listening to this earlier. I really don't like John Zorn. Mr Bungle was a band which he brought to mind for me, also.

Impressive musicianship, no doubt.

In any case, Foetus (in his/it's many incarnations) has a good go at a quite few genres - although more coherently and not nearly on such a frenetic scale as Zappa and (the moderate amount I've heard of) Zorn.

They have a bunch of Foetus albums. So... you know. Instant gratification.

He's clearly influenced by Ornette Coleman, esp. his Masada stuff.

Reading the first post again, I take back the Foetus recommendation (well, I'd still recommend a listen - but not for the same reason). He's dabbled in a lot of different styles, but mainly over the course of albums (and some songs).
