Hi,

I'm trying to enjoy Sonic Synth 1 and my group buy World Instruments collection but I'm having problems with ST LE in Sonar.

The problem is that samples cut off abruptly upon key release--Try playing a good real-time drum part when you have to hold down the key to get the crash cymbal sample to run its full course!

ST gives me the same problem in EnergyXT but not in Chainer.

I'm using ST LE 2.08, Sonar PE 4, Win XP, Audiophile 2496.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Arggh, 23 views no replies! I seem to be running into a unqiue problem! Bummer. I'm surprised this is not a common experience, because I've now verfied this behavior on two XP systems, with two different soundcards. (and the two hosts mentioned above: Sonar PE 4.03 and EnergyXT 1.35)

Again, it's a DRAMATIC cutoff of the sample upon key release. It's most noticeable, obvioulsy, on samples with extended decays, like cymbals, or your excellent China Gongs patch from World Percussion, but the same cutting off happens on pianos (and everything else) too, creating an unnaturally truncated decay and a small pop. Renders everything unusable, tragically. ;)

The last thing I want to be is a perseverating PITA, but I'm also feeling pretty depserate abouut this. There are no apparent settings within ST LE that govern response to incoming MIDI. I've searched up and down Sonar and XT looking for pertinent settings to no avail, and I can't explain why the bad behavior is NOT evident in Chainer (or in XT when I use Chainer to host it).

Aye, if any of you digital problem-solvers can find it in your hearts to think hard on this issue for a moment and maybe take a shot at guiding me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful!

edit: Oops, forgot to mention the important fact that the cutting off DOES NOT happen when the samples are triggered by ST LE's onboard virtual keyboard, nor by the third party plugin Trollo, when I tried that in XT.

It may be that ST responds to the "All Notes Off" message sent by some older keyboard when you lift your hands from it.

Check out my TenCrazy.com MFX SustainFix if you suspect that might be a problem.

Markleford, you are a beautiful, beautiful human being. You diagnosed my problem, and your MFX sustain fix has apparently solved it.

In a week when little is going right me technologically, (Windows de-authorizing itself, bass amp speaker blown, CDs not burning properly, and more...)you have been a real boon! Thanks so much for the response and the great apps!
