Another one for Eric Clapton.
Has been an innovator 35 years ago but didn't improve (or learn anything) since then.
I just got the Cream BBC sessions recently.

I had totally forgotten that he was really good once.

Man they rocked.

i cant seem to find the dictionary definition of overrated that says "artists i dont like that sell records"

I never liked their music. But the videos with Flea wearing the stuffed animal pants is eternally entertaining.

I have to ask:

Isn't everyone overrated?

Anyone who composes the bulk of their music by sampling loops and programming drums. They get lauded with terms like "musical genius" or talented. Even bands that I dislike have a leg up on those types.

the entire punk ethos is overrated...and anything called 'rap'...

let me guess- you like elp, yes, genesis, etc...(just guessing) or maybe it's , never mind...ain't worth it...we are all entitled to opinions...

for the record, i like the bands i mentioned above too, but i like lots of stuff....it just seems all the music friends i've had who hate all "punk" and now "rap", well, they are generally lite-prog rockers who don't even get into gong, henry cow, faust, can...the list goes on...

Word for Bob Dylan - I'm going to rent that new Scorsese documentary just to try to grasp why people like that caterwauling fool so much! :x

most people get over the punk ethos thing when they either move into their mid-to-late 20s or they learn how to actually play an instrument.

hey..i started this crappy thread...i get to put my big, stinky, ugly, overrated foot down once in awhile too...

as i said in the beginning, it's all a bunch of fun...i hardly even posted on it...well, that's a bit exaggerated)

but, i've yet to meet anyone who puts down "punk" as a legitimate form of music or asthetic that can lay down a really rocking guitar part...learning how to play better/improving your brain doesn't mean you should have to remove your balls ...i have known a good few folks that were trained musicians and still can play the raw stuff and apprieciate/acknowledge punk rock,in fact, most of the best musicians i've known are the most knowledgable of all genres and open minded, that's all i'm really getting at...
