what happened? it was like everyone here (in T.O., canada) forgot about drum n bass for years until like last week. now, i can't go anywhere downtown without hearing about this guy. he better be a least a little fukin good. in fact, i don't care how good the guy is, i doubt he can be as good as everyone is saying he is. on a different note, i had a choice to check out panacea or pendulum last month (recent T.O. parties) and i chose panacea. all i can say is i def don't regret it. one of the best sets ever.Chase wrote:pendulum
also - djs = soooooooooooooo overrated,
in fact djs are rediculously overrated
"oooooh look at me. i can work a record player or two and a mixer". give me a break. or "oooooh, look at me, i can make some crappy dance music on my computer"... who cares!!!
and
drum n bass = really overrated
also (had to say it) REASON 3.0 = overrated -
LOGIC PRO 7 (i own it and love it but it still is overrated)
I'm told Pro Tools (overrated as well)
there, that should keep this thread going for a bit (so ross g doesn't have to worry about that last post that wins a prize)

Are you just trying to stir shit here?
actually pendulum is absolutely top notch (it's three guys). In production quality, they are the cream of the top when it comes to DnB, production-wise (them and Noisia, who are maybe not as top notch but WAY cooler and also my heros). Though Pendulum throws cheap-ass, cheesey melodies throughout their music.
DJ's? you're obviously not one. DJ's dont consider themselves (or as a DJ of 5 years i should say ourselves) musicians. I dont know why everyone is like "Oh yeah? well theyre not MAKING the music!!!" so f**king what? we never said we were. DJ'ing takes years to get good, and its expensive. For not being an instrument, it's f**king hard.
Drum n' Bass? where do you hear hype about it? it's not on t.v. or radio or pop culture at all. It doesnt have much hype to be over-rated, and the hype it does get is lived-up to.
Reason is what it is. Propellerheads never said anyhting about it being magic. Also Logic is top notch.
Youre spot on when it comes to pro tools, though

dj tiesto is the most over rated bullshit ever.
as far as i know he don't even writre his own music....all his early hits were composed by ferry corsten. and when corsten dumped him he got other musicians to do the job for him....what a joke.

@chase depends...there are djs which are musicians..like ferry corsten . ferry corsten actually started as musician making records for dj tiesto. then he went his own way and started djing.there are many popular djs which are great at making records.
the over rated djs are the ones that pretend to be good also at writing tracks when infact they pay other ppl to do them for them.....and stick their name on the cover. i think thats pathetic.

many of the so called superstar djs don't.(some of them can't even open up a sequencer)Chase wrote:no im saying why prosecute the non producing dj's who never say they make music in the first place.

yet they have records released each year made by some guy in their studios or they simply commision it out to someone.
they simply place their name on the record and sell it.
if u want to actually see who composed the tune u gotta read the small print

Oasis, Blur, Coldplay, etc... they're all overrated! I'm not saying they're bad, but they all mesh into one sorry samey sound. Compare their musicianship to the great 70s bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Yes, etc... you see what I mean.
Okay, so I'm an old fart. But I really do think that rock music became very dull several years ago and has not really come back as an innovative or very creative form of expression.
Oh, and all that Britney Speares crap is obviously overrated... by seven-year-olds and very stupid people.

I know the predefined methods of steering certain emotion are all to transparent and overrated to me. Yet at times I can't help to fall for the same old tricks in the books because after all I'm human to and cliché's became cliché's because they work. I like many main stream acts even though I must admit I haven't followed it all to close
I rate people who work hard to bring positive vibes into a sick world very high but some outstanding individuals higher
