In the listening room, there have been some cool visits from music industry pros. Here's one this Summer that I just ran across. If you are into NIN then perhaps it may be of interest: http://www.sonikelementz.com/forum/view ... ?p=400#400
We're getting ready to ramp it all up again. Some upcoming Sonik Elementz music as well.

Tell us more about it (either here or on www.sonikelementz.com ). Were you hired to do a remix or was this a public remix opportunity that you took advantage of? Didn't NIN offer one of their tunes in GarageBand format? Either way it is interesting stuff to discuss either here or on SE.StrangeOneStudios wrote:D,

This was a public opportunity. NIN.com offered the stems in a few different formats. I used the PTools session, just my preference. The beat was just one stereo track, but I dont think anyone was upset about that. I know A LOT of people have remixed this, and I think its great that NIN offered it. The vocals were dry, and I did very little to them other than subtle spacing. Ive done a few remixes where the vocals were presented with reverb, and in one case a delay, so its nice when they are bone dry. The beat was made in Reason using my DERANGED UNDERGROUND ReFILL kick and snare which is basically an eq blend of two different drum kits I recorded during a session with a punk band. ((yeah, the band let me have the sample)) You may notice my use of Sonic Reality's WORLD PERCUSSION refill (excellent job guys!)as well. The bassline was ran through AMPLITUBE to get a strat type of sound. One of the guitar riffs I simply played the sample an octave under the root and it came out as a dark driving sound. Running Trent's nice airy sweep through an NN19, I used the frequency LFO to chop up the sound, (you can hear it in the later part of the song). Instead of turning this into a 135bpm club trancer, like I initially wanted to do, I stuck with the original bpm, and overall feel of the song. I realy fell in love with the lyrics and what (I believe) Trent is expressing here. I hope NIN offers more remix opportunities. I have not had a chance to 5.1 surround mix this, but I definetly will. I strongly believe surround sound is the future of music, and maybe even the savior of the music industry...I guess well have to see. Thanks again for the notice, and ill keep you guys posted on future stuff, although right now im up to my earlobes in mixdown work for an indie hip hop label, so I dont have much time for my own stuff. Take care. =)
