cubase to reason rewire problem

i have a project on the go, audio is in cubase rewired to reason, when i have reason open i try and play stuff on my keyboard to trigger sounds in reason ,but there doesnt seem to be any midi signal going in, and i cant hear anything.. if i push play in reason it does set the audio in cubase rolling, so that works.. im building tracks around my audio tracks with reason loops etc so i need to be able to hear the audio and trigger reason sounds ,any idea why it doesnt seem to work?
