a lot of talk about it with the amp sims and other threads, and you know I can sum it up real easy. Every rock guitarist seems to want more and more...more power more drive, more sustain...boost is the hot word and I include myself in having been that way...however there are some common stages guitarists go through, maybe not in the same time span. The desire to always want more (well it's one more then 10 now isn't it?) does reach a peak. A time will come (and some start out knowing this) when you start noticing less is more. A lot of that for me is the EMGs, though it might seem like adding active electronics means adding more, that isn't always the case.

A good example is how many guitarists (again myself included) have used lots of drive as a bit of a crutch...it's easier to pinch off a harmonic, it's much more forgiving and you get more sustain.

But the price you pay is the noise that does garbble the tone. I have found over the years that I am needing less and less from my amp tone because the majority of my tone is from my guitars and the loose nut behind them. However needing less from the amp opens the spectrum up more for the wanted tones. Pinching off those harmonics is a little tougher to master, but they are much cleaner.

So I hope some of the devs read this and keep it mind....sometimes less really is more.

FWIW no way will I ay I have a great sound and do as I do...I have a great sound for my pleasure...just sharing the signs I've read along the trip...:)

Less is more indeed!

I started with only a nameless transistor distortion box plus a Boss flanger. Later added tons of pedals I wish I never sold (EH big muff & phaser) and switched it all for the Boss ME-5. Later to be replaced by the ME-10.

Since 5 years I'm back to only the amp, plus a Boss flanger and a Tech-21 Tri-OD overdrive. No need for delays etc anymore...

But you have to take the whole trip of aquiring it all & selling it all again to get to these insights.

it is nice to know there is more (or should I say less) then just "10" on your amp...:hihi: I never was much for effects, just tons of gain...I use to have '8NEFX' on one of my guitars...guitars which a friend use to call my 80 watt guitars...;)

BTW how is thr tri od? Have you played with a GT2? If so how do they compare?

Sorry I can't compare the Tri-OD to the GT2. When I bought mine I compared it to about 3 other stomp boxes (no Boss, since the store boycotted that, different story) and although double the price of competitors it's worth it.

The sound is different from my Orange amp (OD-120, whicht beats the Tri-OD ofcourse) but quite usable. I mainly got the Tri-OD because my amp does not have a solo channel.

I personally dislike too much drive mesself. all you can do with it is power chords. I have never been into heavy rock tho, and the clean stage of just about any amp is usually enough to get enough distortion for me. But to each their own- and distortion has its place. Its jsut a very small place :hihi:
