Im in Dublin, its not a bad little city, lots of oppurtunities to get noticed, even with the huge amount of people here trying to get noticed!

Within Ireland, Limerick is a famously crappy place, full of red necks, gangs and bigots. There are nice parts of course, but overall, its a fkucing horrible place with a big murder rate. People used to call it "stab city" before they started killin each other with bullets.

Promise me, for your own sake, you will take a trip to Dublin for at least a few days before Christmas, you'll dig it.

Well, I was originally accepted into the MA Sonic Arts program at Queen's Univ. in Belfast. At the last minute, though, I found out that they raised the tuition for international students by 2000pounds, which is nearly $4000!

I couldn't afford it.

I'd been looking forward to going to Ireland to study for the past two years, so I frantically contacted the University of Limerick to see if they'd accept my late application....and they did

Not to mention is the Euro is 1.3 to the Dollar, whereas the Pound is 1.8

About the supposed dangers of Limerick......bad things can happen to you anywhere. I'm pretty sure that Limerick isn't anymore dangerous than some of the shady places I've lived in Chicago for the majority of the past 7 years. You just have to have good street smarts and common sense.

In the end, I'm glad I came to Limerick. The program is grand (i said grand

) and it's a lovely campus. After getting my undergrad in Chicago, as cool as it was, I missed the whole 'campus' setting. I year of out of the city and on the Irish country side will do me fine

i think you could learn a great deal from fitch given her Absynth programming and composition skills.

my film instructor, who taught at university, was mightily opposed to advanced degrees, he figured that by that time you should just go out and do it, presumably because what he did -- won a few competitions, enough to pull a few grants and eventually get a a teaching post. he was a working class sort, and times have definitely changed. networking

As far as the students, 24 on the course, there is a huge cross-section of musical interest/talents. Some are programmers, some are players and some are laptop electronic music making junkies....I fall in the latter part

About the idea of getting an advanced degree.....the whole reason I'm pursuing my Masters is because I'd like to teach at the University level, and in the states you need, at least, a masters to get a faculty position.

i know where your coming from dont get me wrong,just the culture of pubs specially irish pubs is some old bloke fag angin out of his mouth playin a fiddle and a load of others too with various skills and integrity joining in when stoked enough
pubs kinda lose their atmosphere,without that ovr here theyll just be kids in rockport drinkin stella

Someone was tellign me its a great way of meeting women - if a lass you fancy goes out for a fag you can bail out after her and ask her for alight and then work yer patter

Great place Ireland, been there loads. Dublin is good craic but mighty pricey, I remember paying £7 for a vodka and red bull in the Gaeity one night

Also a pain in the ass getting a taxi at the end of the night.

Cork is a nice place too. Also spent laods of time in Belfast as my ex moved there, so used to bail across on the vomit comet every weekend. great fun. Yeah I know its not really ireland but...

i'm in limerick in Nov.. usual in the univ too (concert hall) so would love to meet up with the 2 of you ... and hear about the course etc

Go on then lets have an Eire KvR meet... ferries are cheap and flights are ridiculously cheap... at one point Ryanair were paying £6 of the airport tax for you to fly to dublin from uk...

ive been a few times claire,mostly before kvr existed in my life but a couple of times since.never managed to make time to meet up tho,usually short holidays due to one of my many strange habits

and yeah i love ireland(tis in me blood also)

and yeah jim id definitely be up for a few days over there catchin up with a few peeps.specially the students we can get our heads together and study
