Are there any eq plugins that will show you graphically what the dominant frequncy is on a given track? For example, if I want to see that my kick drum is dominant at 75Hz or whatever and that's where I want an eq boost. Is this question making sense?

So in other words I should have been looking under "analyser" this whole time?

Thanks!

Yes, but you weren't too off. Some EQ's have integrated spectrum analysers so you can see in the same window the spectrum of the input signal and that of the output signal.

Check out some of these Voxengo plugs: CurveEQ, GlissEQ, Voxformer, Transmodder. There's also Elemental Audio Firium, and probably others.

Do any of those analysers mentioned produce an 'averaged' spectral image of the whole track?

SPAN doesn't, but it does give you Peak Hold, with various lengths of time.

Not an average, but still useful.

A very good way is to use 2 instances of Elevayta SpaceBoy on the same track (1 instace as TX, 1 instance as RX). In the "Outer Space" tab it shows you the 4 most dominant frequencies (called wormholes). I have used this technique to equalize my acoustic guitar in the past.

It's just another unusual approach.
Strange, but it worked for me.
